I had this gurgling sound with mine for a few weeks after changing the waterpump. I bled on a hill with front uphill etc didn't solve it - eventually the gurgling just went away!

Thanks guys. Simon mine might just dissappear also but air in coolant worries me.

No combustion leak...new engine with meticulous assembly last week! Very strong and smooth engine. It is possible that heater hoses might need reversing. Cheers

OK...trap to the unwary if changing hoses, heater core etc. My hoses were the wrong way around. It would made no difference at all to cooling/heating effect but it causes the water to run inwards at the top of the matrix and cause a waterfall sound whereas the workshop manual shows the in pipe at the bottom of the matrix pushing up against the existing water that sits in the matrix before the engine revs rise...so swapped it around an immediately no more waterfall sound.

    Cheers
PS. Vac pump will be handy to completely remove all traces of OAT in 20,000 k time...Im not doing the 150,000k change!!

I think I will keep the OAT this time, but wont leave it to the GM specified 5 years/150,000klm...

I think the OAT is not good when there are cooling system leaks, but otherwise should be ok form what I have seen. I had run the green ethyl glycol for the last 65,000k and the radiator was 40% blocked in that time...so I think for me my little experiment with D1 spec coolant has not been good.

Great to see you are getting it back together Pedro. My 4.0 blew a head gasket internally and continued driving caused carbon build up on a pushrod (1 cm each side!!!!!) and that was hitting the head...so it seems that was the knocking. No evidence of liner movement. Hone marks still clear in the bores. In other words my 4.0 probably only needed a HG!!! But why the HG went in the first place in 50,000k or so I dont know cause it wasnt overheated in that time.

    Cheers
