It is a vibration damper... And yes, they are worth leaving on...
Just get some new HT bolts, some loctite (mild) and bolt it back.
Hi all,
Recently I was driving. when I started hearing a ting ting ting noise.
Pulled over and checked under the car, and this has sheared the bolts and fallen off from the bottom side of the rear diff / drive shaft?
Its an L shape bracket with two solid circles attached. Seem to be made out of some hard rubber.
Car drives the same, Do I need it? should I put it back on?
I'm expecting it is just some kind of vibration soaker or something?
thanks.
Jon

Mine was removed when the APT diff guards were installed.
Didn't really notice any difference.

On corrugations etc your driveline does!!
As Tombie says, your drive line will know. Do a search, your brakes shields or whatever they are called will be the next to go. I had already read this and haven't refitted mine. What do you know my brake shields are now gone. LOL.
The main reason I haven't got to refitting mine is the bolts snapped the bolts and I have to easy them out.
Happy Days.
Hmm, must tell my brake shields that. The little sods cracked before the diff dampener exited stage right ! Not playing the game, not cricket eh wot?I know what you mean with the bolts snapping flush, a real pain to get out.
Cheers Scott
The mass dampners were introduced in the early 90's when rover changed the phase coupling of their tailshafts.
I didn't notice any difference on my 93 or p38.
