I wouldn't take the chance on reinstalling the TC as is, at the very least it will be full of clutch debris
Between the TC upgrade and the remap, that should charge up the smile counter for at least a year or two.[smilebigeye]
As you're fitting the heavy duty flex plate I assume you'll be modifying the TD5 converter?
The lockup clutch sheds friction material.
The standard clutch itself is pretty marginal in terms of torque capacity.
And the vanes can come loose in the converter, the inefficiency increases running temps of the fluid putting further strain on the friction material throughout the trans, the valves, check valves, etc
And as discorevy says, the filter is only a mesh gauze, more a strainer than a filter.
When I did mine i have a parts washer so connected it to the oil cooler and flushed it out, would rotate the cooler and swapped ends so cleaning fluid ran both directions, i also added an extra oil cooler too also brake clean as a final finish.
Yes getting the torque converter cleaned out and reconditioned they do catch a lot of stuff, the other thing that needs to be added is change the oil and filter after doing 4 to 5000kms there is a bit of crap that comes out from clutches etc bedding in.
