I have just bought a trans to use as a donor it is out of a BMW had 150 K on it I will be using the centre parts out of it and may put the forward clutch pack and oil pump up for sale later it is a 24hp so now have two trans to strip down.
Hey Stevo why not use the hp24 bits in your new box? Toughen up a bit.
I will be using the centre bits for my 22, if I find my oil pump and/or a clutch pack housing is stuffed may go the whole way it has done 272 K with towing and I do have a heavy foot with a chipped motor so it has done ok standard, with the turbo from TD 5 going on thought I might just add some strength to it.
Time is also a factor and will be out of work again around November so need to do it reasonable quickly without having to Change my drive shafts mind you 15mm they may not need changing.
Also here is the Teflon seals for the input shaft for the A clutch pack seals to stop the cross leakage and partially applying the clutch pack in neutral causing wear.
[/ATTACH]Here is a spring correction kit they supply 3 springs enough for thre transmissions or a couple of spares if you drop one. Goes into the throttle valve inside the original spring
Also two balls for inside the valve body from a local place I have replaced the bigger nylon ball with a much stronger silicon nitride which handles heat and solvents much better as this larger nylon ball tends to fail inside the valve body.
All up here is the pile of stuff to fit to the car with trans stuff to the left engine in the middle and transfer case to the right, will start on pulling trans out early to mid October it will be the first thing to pull down to see what I may need to order,
Here is my 4HP24 EH donor transmission out of a BMW that had 150 K on it bought it for $330 lots of vehicles have them but you have to check the ratios first as the ZF 4HP transmissions came out with two different sets of ratios.
Also my mounting bracket MK 2 as was not happy with the first one and it is easier to make one when you have a trans that is easy to measure out of vehicle. Can mount it onto an engine stand as you need to be able to get to both ends easy.
just some info on the transmission and finding info on it for a starter the hardest part has been finding a clear manual, I received one from a member here printed by ATSG photos are hard to make out and there was a mistake on page 90 that if you followed it you would stuff your trans, will staple a correct page to this.
found a good manual online from this mob www.autoepc.com.ua now this did not cover the electronic valve bank as it is a separate manual, so found this on a BMW site twrite.org/shogunnew/files/Jason/4HP22EH.../4HP22EH-Valvebody.html or google ZF 4HP22E valve body repair.
this had some good info which made me look at changing out the nylon ball with something better able to handle the heat and shock loading.
also www.cowdery.org.uk click on vehicle stuff the click on V8 Sherpa van the onto ZF gearbox rebuild.
Has been a lot of other info on mods which is why I am using Teflon seals on input shaft just not sure on how to post those pages on here.
Interesting about the donor vehicles, would the box out of the donor vehicle bolt straight in,considering condition and ratios.probably dumb question.
