Ok, so if I disconnect and reconnect the yellow one under the drivers seat the light goes off for a bit then back on, about 20 seconds off. Doesn't do this with the passenger one

Do you mean nothing happens with the passengers at all? Check the contacts in the connecters, they tend to distort and lose contact. Use a fine pointed something to adjust them a little, spray with an electrical contact cleaner and refit. See how that goes

To clarify, the passenger side one the light stays on, no change, the driver one it goes off briefly then comes back when disconnected then reconnected, so I am assuming it is probably the drivers side that's the cause of the issue, will attack it further tomorrow.

Nice green Bar-be-que you have there. The wife will love you for that.
Now you will have to add ...." Paint bar-be-que" to the job list!

It will burn off I'm sure lol, speaking of burning off this silly ACE decided to leak the fluid all over the engine bay which smoked like crazy and caused a mild panic when taking the wife to a weekend teaching course... Brutus is now in the doghouse. Going to refill the fluid and see if I can find the leak, think it might be the hose from the reservoir to the pump as there seems to be a lot of fluid around there.

Generally I am a bit worried about the heat in the engine bay, the gauge on the dash sits about halfway but I can feel the heat radiating from the front end as I drive along even on a cold day so once this ACE issue is dealt with I think I shall invest in a better gauge and a flush/clean of the coolant system

So it appears that the replacement ACE pump has gone the way of the first, leaving me wondering if a leak is the root cause of the issue or if something else is broken or jammed in the ace system that could be causing the repeated failure or if a mere leak can cause the pump to break. Was wondering if I could remove the pump altogether and get a smaller belt as a cheap fix because I was supposed to be going away in a couple of weeks and not sure I want to be stranded because of this problem

Re the heat in the engine bay: Don't go by the gauge in the car, its generally acknowledged to be totally useless and when it does react its too late!
Early advice in this thread was to fit an engine saver and its good advice. People also change their thermo to an 82c one rather than the original unit.(88c I think).
The health of the cooling system is really important and Id suggest you ensure both fans are working as they should and the system has had a good flush inclusive of the radiator.
I ran mine in the tropics and I used Hawkeye to check my temps. Once I had everything sorted mine never rose above 96c and operated around 86c when driving.

ACE is brilliant but faults are another issue.......

After a long day of ferrying the family around in the mini I decided that no ACE is better than no Land Rover right now, so 50 bucks later I fitted the belt from a non ace equipped disco and whipped out the pump to back to the shop that sold it to me last month. Should be well within warranty, and when I have that sorted I shall overhaul the whole ace system and reinstall it. For now I blocked off the pipes so no dirt can get in and a test run to the next town over has shown no adverse effects to the handling. I can only assume it's been broken since before I bought him but in general I notice no major side effects to not having it working... I guess I shall be amazed when I get it up and running again!

Next i will definitely work on the cooling and an engine saver has been on the shortlist for a while, was hoping it could wait till after my big trip but I am thinking sooner would be better, also some better way of monitoring the actual temperature that doesn't require too much modification.

Not entirely sure how I missed this during my pre purchase inspection but lying under Brutus trying to find where the ace could be leaking I spotted this sterling repair job!
