So what is this?

Hi There,
Recently purchased a D2 2001 TD5 auto, whilst cleaning things up I noticed this small black "gaffa taped" knob in the drivers foot well. I can find no reference to it in the hand book and I've checked the workshop manual so far with no luck. No doubt someone on here will know what this is. The knob is attached to a rod, when pulled it extends across the foot well about 6 to eight inches and comes to a definite stop. Then duly slides back into position. What is the normal running position? what does it do? what will happen if you have this in the wrong position? Picture should be attached. I am assuing this has something to do with the gearbox and some method of locking something............ Just a guess

Did that model have the centre diff lock? If not, maybe it's a diff lock lever.

Image isn't working on my mobile but my guess would be CDL follow the cable and see where it goes
Does the CDL light come on when you move it ?

Yep, i 2nd the bodged up CDL lever. Would look ok with a boot and a knob on it.
