    Starter motor TD5

Well after picking up my D2 from the garage the other day after quite a bit of expensive work, it looks like my starter motor is about to go. Because of the diesel leak and other issues I had. It seems the fuel has leaked all over my starter and it clicks when I go to start the engine and have to try it a few times before it fires.

What is the cheapest way of fixing it? Where is the best place to buy spare parts.

A mechanic quoted me roughly $500 to have it taken out and electrician fix it and put it back in or about $1000 to replace it with a new one.

I found a new starter motor on ebay for $230 but am not sure if ebay is trustworthy.

I use this company in the UK, even with the exchange rate and delivery they are still cheap.

A much cheeper option is to take it out and get an auto electrician to put in new contacts. That should cure your problem.

Hopefully that's all that it needs.

It is very easy to change the contacts yourself. I've done it a couple of times, parts are around $30 from your local Ashdown Ingrams. There is a tutorial on here.

    Part numbers you need :
Contact Set part # SLX75827 (same, but pack says "Rodeo")
Plunger part # SLX75564 (exact replacement part)

    Here's the tutorial - http://http://www.aulro.com/afvb/pro...epair-diy.html

Ditto saving the $100+ power hour charge to pull it yourself.
Haven't done it for a while so took me am hour to pull.
15 minutes to change contacts and clean plunger and do a once over.
Still no go, so off for rebuild-$280 from Redcliffe car electrics. They do all of MRs work. New plunger, brushes etc. tomorrows job is refit.
    Cheers, BDave.
