The rear diff in a D1 and D2 are the same ratio. You can remove the diff centre from a D2 or D1 and bolt it into your diff housing.

Second hand the diff should be between $100-$250 i'd imagine. It would be worth replacing the pinion seal at the same time. If you use the D1 diff centre you will also need a new pinion nyloc nut. The D2 uses a bolt instead.

If you are unable to do the work yourself, then labour on top of that.

For a new diff i've got no idea of price, but you could have on imported from the UK.

I was told both my diffs were worn. That was 120,000 km ago and a big lap.

Still on the same diffs and no problems!

I blew my rear diff and decided easier to replace the rear axle, cost $100 off eBay from a LR spares place. I was also not able to get hold off a torque wrench to torque hub nuts up to the required 340 lbs a ft so easier to replace the whole lot ( and had oil leak coming from one of the hubs I was told)

When I bought my Disco I knew the rear diff was whining.

During a trip to TRS, while it was there, for $300 they fitted a good second hand diff centre. All good now with a lot less drive train free play.
