    tons of fun Electrical issues

    Hiya everyone.

just got a 2002 disco 2 v8 and the previous owner took it upon him self to do some very "interesting" wiring . lots of twist and tape kinda wiring.

So yesterday i decided to pull out the radio he fitted and boom the purple wire grounded out and now i have no power in that system at all. so no radio , no interior lights and i am sure there are other issues that i have not found yet .

I have a had a good look around the forum and net trying to find a answer to this problem and it seams as if its all bcu related. Could anyone shed some light on this for me ?

from what i can see this purple/violet wire goes to everything that dont work lol. i have checked fuses and replaced them even if they were not blown.
i have access to to another d2 that i can liberate a bcu from if needed , if i do swap this component over will i have to re program stuff?

it has a after market hollandia 700 sunroof thats been badly wired in too . i disconnected this just in case it was contributing to the problems.

so far i have removed all of his awesome wiring so i can start from a fresh page again.

any help to solve these issues would be greatly appreciated

    sam

Hi, If you dont have tester another BCU is to no avail cos it needs serious programming to make it work, if you grounded the purple wire it should have blown fuse F20 from interior fusebox or burn a contact in a splice joint so concentrate on that feed path, the worst scenario is that there's something interrupted in the interior fusebox so if you have access to a donor car replace that fusebox first to rule it out, you have to disconnect the battery first then after the swap and battery reconnection put ignition on pos II and leave it so 5 minutes as the IDM to reestablish digital data communication with the BCU

if you dont have one download a RAVE for the diagram and follow the feed from fuse F20, or if you are not handy with diagrams i'll tell you where to measure but RAVE is needed for the connector views... as long as the car starts i'm sure that the fuse and one path from the fusebox is good cos it feeds the passive remobilisation coil too and unless the passive immobilisation is disabled it won't start

i downloaded rave today . the car starts and runs no worries at the moment.
i will liberate the fuse box from this other disco and replace that , as i found out this arvo the windscreen leaks , so i bet the fuse box has some corrosion.

as for diagrams i am not to bad . Mechanic by trade. i will check f20 and trace it through and see what i can find.

thanks for the info on the bcu . i am investing in a nanocom next week i have a feeling i am gonna need with this disco the wiring is so hacked about its the worst i have ever seen .

Every thing now working right again , found another 4 wires leaching off the purple wire 1 of them was rubbed through and touching metal when driving. so ripped even more old rubbish out , cleaned up the fuse box and also fitted a 2nd fuse box for 2 way and few other things in the cab. just need to get the windscreen fixed now and the 3 annoying amigos and fit my new clock spring and i will be one happy chappy.

    thanks for the tips sierrafery.
