hi while I have the trans and engine out I am going to do a few leaks on engine the rear seal has the yellow seal guide on so will leave that one along just push it on, the front seal do I put it on dry?? seem to remember something about the TDI seals going on dry.

the manual just says clean everything up and install.

Tdi are lightly oiled according to the manual, crank and cam. But not sure that has a lot of bearing on it. You have to take the sump off to do the rear one, the gasket has some nipples in it that fit into rear crank seal.
The sump face is totally flat, if you have any washers around the bolt holes, they are from the old gasket and need removing. They can be well stuck and make you think they should be there, then you get a leak or crack the sump. Ask me how i know.
Rtv on bottom of rear crank and at the timing cover interface at front.
Tip on here was cable ties or cotton to keep that crazy gasket in place while refitting.

Cheers yes I have a new sump gasket and did it years ago when I did my oil pump bolt seemed to remember that it was a pain but might be easier as engine is out of car so no diff and trans cooler pipes in the way.
