    Which disco to buy

    Hey guys.
So I thought I'd put this to the masses and see what you fellas have to say. Done lots of looking in the Internet trying to figure out which disco to go for. So I'm looking for a discovery 2 as I don't like any other 4wds out there atm. What I'm wandering is what years should I be looking for how many ks is ok and the age old question v8 or td5.

My budget is about 10k to 15k this will be my weekend car as I have a work ute (triton *shudder*) for the week. I want to use the disco for a fair bit of travel but I'm also wanting to take her for some decent offroad use. I would like to modify the motor to push a bit of power out of what ever I get as I'm young and dumb so need to take that into consideration aswell. Thanks guys for the assistance.

I'd go td5 all the way most likely d2a as this gives you more torque cdl and you can buy a tune to suit your needs but it gives far better economy than a V8 and realistically the diesel has a longer life expectancy than the v8

For your budget you should get a fairly tidy looking late model D2. The later models also have the advantage of having the CDL installed.

The TD5 will obviously be better on your pocket for fuel use. The V8 will be quite thirsty but if you want that roar, go for it. I miss my old V8.

As for which engine gives best performance, well, I had to adjust my thinking when I went from the V8 to the Td5. The Td5 was much quicker accelerating then the V8 ever was and seemed to always have more grunt. However, this was a D1 V8 not the D2 V8 which is a modified version of the V8 from the D1.

    I hope this helps!

Agree the D2a 2003/04 update model is the one to go for. Aside of the centre diff lock being standard there were also a lot of other improvements.

V8 or td5 is a personal preference. My preference is the td5, better fuel economy and towing ability. However you will find the V8s are much cheaper to buy compared to the td5

    Cheers

Thanks fellas really appreciate the advice seems the td5 is the way to go I am a bit partial to a nicely tuned diesel. What about issues with the td5 I find a lot of people hate for the sake of hating but I had a rangey classic for a while until the block decided to give up the ghost how are the td5s for reliability as I plan on travelling a fair bit

V8. Very reliable and heaps more go. If you like quiet running it's the ONLY option. V8's do head gaskets at higher ks when cooling system has been neglected - otherwise they are very trouble free. See if you can find a 4.6....quells any argument than a chipped up hair dryer 2.5 has more grunt. Cheers
