Looks the goods did you paint the mesh as well ?

I have been wanting to develop a Saudi type mesh grille for some time and finally got around to it today.
I bought 1 metre of Stainless 304 woven stainless wire with an aperture of 5.6MM and a wire diameter of 0.9 MM . This is 1525Mm wide so I have plenty.
This cost $114.50 from Ezi metal including $25 dellivery.
I bought an grille on ebay quite a while ago so I cut the guts out of it with a Dremel with reinforced wheel and a coarse small die grinder in the corners.
You can bend the mesh easily so I was able to bend it so that it fits neatly. In fact it didn't want to come out.
I plan to hold it in place just by dispensing lots of Sikaflex to the back of the grille.

The grille is currently drying and waiting for its clear coat of Oslo Blue.
I will post a picture when I get it in.

BTW this size mesh has the largest void ratio of just about all meshes at 73% so it should let plenty of air through.

Nice, expensive mesh but you want one that's open.
My SCA mesh is open and is holding up okay, MR LR did the same but found the SCA mesh failed after a while.

X2 !!
Did that job a couple of years back with the alloy mesh( on special for $15 at the time I think) a bit of work with the dremel and a few 6mm nuts and bolts holding it and the mesh is holding up well.
I have seen the job done with very heavy square mesh.
Haven't had any problems yet. I think that the major issue is ensuring that the mesh, which ever size is securely anchored so that if the grill is hit by a decent sized yonnie, that the force is dispersed across the grill and not punched through due to lack of mounting points on the cut down grille.
Mine definitely withstands bees, moths, butterflies and dragonflies anyway(maybe wouldn't stand up to a roo though).
Cheers,
Jason
No because it would soon become crappy from bugs etc knocking the paint off.Looks the goods did you paint the mesh as well
I would do it black but then you would see through at the "ugly" fan etc which is why they have those slats on an angle OEM.
I will probably replace the under grille also as I have lots of spare stuff.
I think the void ratio of 73% would be as big as if not bigger than the void ratio on that expanded mesh stuff.

I looked up SDO912 which is the common car grille expanded metal mesh and it has a void ratio of only 58% so the stainless woven mesh is MUCH better.

As promised the final outcome.

More photos!!! From further back and on your haunches buddy.
Cheers
Phillip nice job mate.
Get the mesh painted gloss black with two-pack, it won't chip easily then. The stainless looks gaudy...
I decided the badge looked best in the centre too... used a rear door badge from a D1 that i sikaflexed on.
The SCA mesh only lasted me about 15,000km (car has done a further 40,000 with the square mesh). But it gets used... and on rough roads.
