If you get an insurance payout I would walk away from the vehicle.
Wading depth is knee hight outside the vehicle, not bonnet height.
Sorry to hear about your D2!

Yep that's what I've been told, luckily when I got my insurance I didn't tell them all of the mods and editions to the car, so I've been able to strip it of racks, winch, all gauges, revers cam, allies port inter cooler, boost box, spot ties etc etc. maybe I can sell some of the stuff.
Thanks again everyone, and if no one on here is to biased, I may change my brand of 4wd, maybe better luck with somethin else. I've been told the 4.2 turbo diesel Nissan Gu is the goer. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The more info for me at the moment the better.
Cheers guys
Go another disco td5, you know what to look for in a good one now.

Nissan Patrol will need suspension support bracket on rear as this is a design failure point. Outrigger brackets for the suspension coils that crack if too much load - need to check before purchase. Will feel like an old truck (literally - new 3T trucks have a better ride) and drink like a sailor. Make sure you get a factory TD, not turbo added to a NA 4.2.
thanks for the replies guys. I dont know if I mentioned this but our luck with disco's has been ridiculous. First disco was mint cond, and my wife when 3 months pregnant accidently rolled it pulling off the hume to take a leak. Seconf disco looked great, I went for it cause it had alot of mods i wanted, turns out the previous owner was a very dodgy dude and lied, ALOT! got 60k's up the road after purchase and the disco wouldnt go above 90 on the freeway, then 80 then 60 then break down. etc, etc etc later ($8,000 in repairs and tweaks) transmission failed on the way to coffs. Decided that after all we had sent I should stick with the disco cause they are a great car and we had alot of good mods that would go to waste if we tried something else. So I bought a 04 disco mint condition (best cond ive seen to date). had about $14,000 worth of mods tweaks extras etc.... bought it for $13,000. Climbed to top of Mt walker, did stuff I never expected, and then I thought hey, river, snorkel, beast disco, lets see f i can get through bonnet deep river, first go went through perfectly, turned around to get some footage (heading upstream) and ... well a sunk disco. I love the disco, think its my car of choise, but with our luck I think I would be crazy to buy another... I dunno. Today I stripped the disco and put all the stuff on my old one with a new transmissiion. I plan on selling it with all the extras and ope I can get a good price, hopefully insurance payout is good to. I dont know, I feel if I get another disco it will fail me in the middle of australia somewhere with the fam and I'll be the GOOSE that did it again. Maybe a bicycle would be best....
You will like the 4.2TD GU, best of the Patrols in my opinion. They are a bigger unit externally than the Disco, but it should be a good truck for a long time.
cheers slunnie
maybe someday i'll own another d2.
I tried to start the engine today via jumper leads and it didnt sound bad at all, just wont kick over. and there are no warning lights on the dash or anything. i'm a bit confused. the water was up the seat in the car so maybe electrics werent harmed. everything does look wet under the dash but more condensation. seems like it might be worth buying back and fixing up... the body of the car is imaculate inside and out ( besides some dings in the bonnet from the bullbar bending into when getting towed out, the brackets holding the bullbar were very inssufficient).
