    Unhappy Drowned my new D2!!

So took my d2 through a deeper section of the cox's river yesterday, (on a mission to find my number plate which I lost while camping with my daughter 2 days earlier) and the disco went through perfectly! water was over the bonnet but didnt struggle one bit. So decided to go back through and get some footage,(driving with a mate in the car but no others around) but stupidly heading upstream, I completely didnt think about that at all, I was having to much fun and then nothing.... just came up the other side of the deepest point and the car cut out, sitting in there starting to stress I tried to start it again (I have a snorkel BTW) and nothing, so next thing was to jump out and winch. By this point the water was up around my knees, I finally got the car hooked up and towed further upstream where it was shallower. by the time I got there the battery was flat (and the exhaust still under water. some locals 2 hrs later some locals tried to help by using jumper cables but no luck, car wanted to turn over but couln't get past a few coughs. So all I could do is leave it down there, We got a lift back to lithgow and got the train home. today I found some great towies (Welch's) and they towed her out for me and back to blackheath. From what the towy reconed was that the car got to flooded for it not to be a right off, he also said the electrics are gonna cause us worlds of pain for a long time. I dont think anyone would have any idea how devostaed I am, this is my 3 landrover d2 in 3 yrs finally a real good one with great service history and bang, one mistake and all gone. I found out that the snorkel wasn't water tight and the air filter was full of water, so there could be some bigger engine problems to.
Just thought ide share to help get it off my chest, my wifes due to give birth this week to....

My cousin had the exact same problem you had in his D2. His snorkel was also not sealed up well and took in water into the air box. Don't stress to much yet you might still be alright. I managed to get his going after it took on some water. Well alot of water 😯
Take the glow plugs out and the number 5 injector I think it was and turn the ignition over to pump any water which it may have swallowed. Check your oil first to make sure no water is in there. Clean all sensors and take off the bottom intercooler hoses to drain any water out.
Once you have done all checks put it back together and cross your fingers 😆 Good luck with it. Hope all goes well for you.
    Cheers

I'd be putting a cap of metho down each pot too to help evaporate any water. And replace the oil.

Gentlemen the D2 air box does not seal well at the top also it is not sealed completely either as there is a small hole in the bottom. The sealing to the inner guard panel is tricky.it probably wasn't the snorkel that was the issue.

I wish you the best of luck getting the engine running. If it was trying to turn over all that time but not start, you might be I luck.

Again good luck with the car and congratulations on the little one on the way.

Just gonna say, again , dont use a snorkle as an excuse to drive in deep water, will end in a FTP 90% of the time ..........

Do you mean the water was up to your knees whilst you were sitting in the car.I hope not.

thanks for all the replies guys. Its at the mechs at the moment and i just got off the phone with them, doesnt sound good. He said even if he can get the engine going we still have the issue of all the water thats been through the car, main problem will be electrics he says. He recons even if everything else is going ok we will forever be having electrical problems. In his opinion its a total ride off. And yes the water was up to my knees IN the vehicle.... Ive spent so much getting this car up to how I wanted it... I just hope my insurance covers me for all the extras. its about 20,000 worth of car. (well it was....)

today im gonna try forget about it, whats hapened has happened and I can't change that.

wife may give birth soon too

If anyone has any good suggestions for a good towing tourer vehicle please shoot a reply. and any other replies are well accepted, cheers heaps everyone. Also I fanyone on here hinks it may be worth me buying back the vehicle and trying to fix it up let me know to. car was serviced every 5,000k and had done 170,000k.

Get the engine running and take it from there
Insurance will never pay out true value, especially after you have now told them exactly what you did to cause the problem
The sooner you can start cleaning the better , if the engine runs, IMO.
    Good luck

If it is auto there is a computer under the pas seat for a start, there will be stuff behind the pas kick panel depending what model etc.A lot of work involved but i presume it is fresh water.
