What roof racks for the D2?

    Hi,

Having just ordered an awning, it's time to sort out roof racks to hang it off. I'm thinking that the gutter and roof of the D2 is not really standard height.

What make/model roof racks are people running on their D2's for their awnings? I don't need/want a full rack, just the bar type over the roof.

    Thanks.

    Peter.

Thats what i have. With shaved Defender rhino legs and rhino shims under the bars so the bars sit 2cm off the roof instead of the crazy 3in or so that the standard d2 ones sit at. Cheers

Rhino Legs, shorter then recommended but with added spacers and trimmed on the inside to clear roof. Topped off with heavy duty bars.
I have a 3rd bar which fits right about where the factory roof bars begins. Only gets fitted when needed.

I did the same. 3 x Rhino 210mm legs, re-profiled the inside curve of the two rear ones with an angle grinder so they hug the roof curve (Rhino show 280mm legs as standard for the D2 but that's just too high in my books). The 3rd/front legs fit without modification. Fitted the HD bars with 2x 10mm spacers per leg.

I fitted my (foxwing) awning using the bar end mounts so the awning top is level with the top of the bars (so it doesn't sit on top of the bars, it hangs below) ... Then fitted a 2m Rhino tray onto the bars.

If you have a look in the gallery I have photo's there so you can get an idea.

    Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

While I read through one of the longer threads on roof racks I didn't really see any suggestions.

These are a great starting point... time to start looking around.

I used 75x25 aluminium rhs and tied it to the existing roofrails with 2 u-bolts at each corner.

Its very sturdy .....I am told you can safely put 250kg on the existing rails.....and I can very easily mount/dismount my roofrack (ex nissan patrol) from the racks.

I guess one could very easily extend the near racks another 50mm or so to enable an awning to be fitted.

A very cheap alternative to commercially available products.....they do sing a bit due to their shape but you could put a snubnose rubber on and close the ends off it matters.

i was hoping to put2 racks on the factory bar and one extra rack at the rear. I havent started looking yet but I hope that i can find a setup like that. I just want to be able to put a flat tray on top for camping and carting, maybe an awning.
