maybe someday i'll own another d2.
I tried to start the engine today via jumper leads and it didnt sound bad at all, just wont kick over. and there are no warning lights on the dash or anything. i'm a bit confused. the water was up the seat in the car so maybe electrics werent harmed. everything does look wet under the dash but more condensation. seems like it might be worth buying back and fixing up... the body of the car is imaculate inside and out ( besides some dings in the bonnet from the bullbar bending into when getting towed out, the brackets holding the bullbar were very inssufficient).
The computers will have all definately gotten wet, there are 3 in the passengers footwell and one under the passengers seat. That said, it will probably have been fresh water and its certainly not unheard of them drying out and working again. If the motor wont turn over, I'd bet it has water in it. Possibly you might be able to pull the glow plugs (only 4) and get it to clear. Sometimes it will also very very slowly turn - like its almost not moving, and it will clear and start. Before any of this you would need to clear the induction system of water including the intercooler.
    Cheers

Maybe there is some hope. What do you think my chances are of buying it back? Ive never been in this situation but I think buying it back might be a good idea?
So ive cleared the induction system, taken off intercooler and cleared that. When I took it off there was some wet sludge coming out from the inlet pipe to the engine (pipe on front left of engine). Im goin back in tomorrow, so ill need to top up the coolant(just with water), as I drained it. pull the glow plugs out and try turn it over? hopefully the mechanics there give me some of there time.
    cheers

sorry to hear of your bad run, though they sound more like unlucky accidents/ not so good decisions that would have happened in no matter what 4wd you were driving at the time. my dad has a 4.2L nissan patrol. It is a good car, but guzzles the diesel and its tow capacity is really terrible. and it is uncomfortable but it is a ute. It has been a good car though. but my disco has been a good car it is just getting long in the tooth now. A friend drowned their d22 nav a fair few years ago by driving into a puddle they did not check the depth of before. that was dirty yuck water even deeper than what you drowned your disco in. but they dried the ecu out, pulled seats out and opened everything as much as they could and let it all dry out, did the same engine stuff discussed in here, and that car lived again and was as reliable as it always was. i think as long as you do nto get hydraulic lock, there is hope
but chances of buying it back are good if you have that option with your insurance if it is indeed written off. good luck with which ever path you go down though and good luck for the imminent arrival of your little one!

The only luck you have had is being able to access and remove parts from a vehicle that belongs to the insurance company. The rest is well..never going to end any other way.
If its a stat write off dont bother trying to get it going, its value wont change and it cant be registered.
The easiest cheapest way to deal with the electrics is to replace the computers.
If you have already stripped the good bits off just let it go.

If it has been drowned will be a stat write off - worthless to you if you buy it back - as you have already stripped all the good stuff off.
If it were me - claim insurance and buy another - 3rd time lucky I say.
Depending on pay out and what you want to spend you may be able to upgrade to a D3.
