    tow ball tongue

howdy, does anyone know of a good brand/place that one might find a good long drop towbar tongue? hayman reese do not seem to have anythign that would suit my needs. most seem to be a style with bolts or pins to adjust the drop level, which no way am i using one like that for a horse float, even if it says rated for 3000 plus kg, those just make me nervous with my precious cargo! the current one is a landrover factory one that has a long drop but needs to be longer so my float is level! seriously need like a 30cm or so heavy duty drop towball tongue. i have looked previously but never had any luck and didnt really tow the horses enough to warrant one, but now new float horse fits in and now hes broken in, will be towing a lot more frequently.
    cheers guys

30 centimeters is a hell of a drop, would you be able to raise the tow hitch on the float?

Yeah my car has 2 inch lift and slightly bigger tyres. No way to lift hitch on the float either . Would probably void the warranty if did that too.

Hi Epic, looking at your pic I would say about a 4" or 10cm drop is all you would need. Any lower and by the time you have 2 horses, their and your associated gear in the back of the D2 it will be about on the ground! The adjustable hitches are quite strong enough to do what you want, just make sure its a reputable brand. It all boils down to how much towing you do verses the cost.
I very much doubt there is a 30cm drop made to suit the 50mm hayman box, that would only be on a light truck which are 6omm box and up.

My drop is already more than 10 cm ill measure it tomorrow but is definitely more than that. And horses on board it never makes it drop much further. Havent had horses in the new float yet but any other ive towed it hasnt. Obviously will be using tow ball tongue that i currently have until a different solution is found haha.

    tow hitch

Epic, \I spent the last five years of my working life in a caravan sales yard workshop.
I fitted at least two tow ball setups a week during that time.
I only fitted Hayman Reese setups as the yard considered them the best on the market. At over six hundred dollars a set they are strong and I have never heard of one breaking.
If I were towing a lovely horse I would use nothing else. They have past the test of time.
    Regards Nick.

Thats why i wont use one of the weird bolted together tongues for towing the horses. I don't trust them haha. Just hsve to use what is on there, is heavy duty not sure if hayman reese as cant remember what it says. Unfortunately haymen reese do not seem to have anything that suits my needs anyway.

I had a similar problem when I fitted the Kaymar rear bar the my D2 as the hitch hole was 100 m higher than standard.

I ended up fitting one of these as it had the best drop I could find. One mod I did though was replacing the pins with hi tensile bolts and shimming the adjustable plate with some flat washers to stop the rattling.

MISTER HITCHES Adjustable Ball Mount HEAVY DUTY 16 STAGE

There is a mob on eBay which also sell them so do a search on Mister Hitches there

    Cheers
