New PAS Pump not drawing fluid

    Hi Folks,

I've just replaced the seal in the middle of the PAS pump and hooked everything back up. I've topped up the fluid and jacked up the front but turning the wheels the pump isn't drawing fluid and everything is really stiff when I take it off the stands.

Any pointers as to what to look at next. Checked everything was spinning nicely on the pump before I reinstalled it...

    Thanks
    Jake

Do you mean the oring at the back of the PAS pump? Sounds as if you have failed to engage the drive with the water pump correctly although that should only make a very noticeable noise on startup! When I did mine I filled the res then turned the pump by hand,no belt, And I rocked it to draw fluid in. Though apart from that no prob, 6-8 turns had fluid returning to the res.

It was the gasket between the two halves that was leaking/replaced - no noise and the drive is from the pulley at the front so I'd get PAS fluid pumping surely!

Will pull the belt off and try that to see if it makes a difference.

How far in should the hose on the side go BTW, mine only went in a little way, but when I removed it it seemed to be in quite a long way, wondering if I remembered that wrong?

Not real sure how far the side pipe should enter the fitting. Where did you get a gasket for the pump? As far as I know they are a non repairable unit. That raises the question of if you made a gasket is it the same thickness as the original? This is crucial as that determines the gear clearances in the pump, too thick and there is too much end clearance and the oil will just circulate in the pump and not develop the required pressures.

Did you check that all the pump 'Rollers' we're in place before bolting the two pump halves back together? I know I managed to dislodge one that dropped into the back of the pump, but I noticed that before I re-assembled mine.

My pump is still leak free after I did my RTV gasket repair back in March 2015, I'll get around to fitting a proper gasket one day...

Yeah I did check those as I had to reassemble those rollers. Guess I'll be taking it apart again!

have you tried the hand priming? I just replaced the whole pump but should not be any different as they would both be empty. The front oil seal went on mine.
