If you have no leaks then replace your copper injector washers and o rings , look for cracks while the injectors are out , but you'll probably find carbon tracking under the washers , isn't blknight up there somewhere?,
G'day all,
firstly I have read several similar posts however... Land Rover Discovery 2002 Td5 Auto
The story so far...
Initial symptoms: Fuel pump noisy during prime, no other side effects.
Next: Car sometimes difficult to start (taking more than the usual 2 cranks to start) however once running no issues.
Next: Fuel pump gurgling and starting difficulties more consistent however once running still no issues.
Next: Pump increasing in noise and gurgling evident. Still running ok.
Diagnosis: Found fuel filter loose but no leak evident. Replaced fuel filter. Purged system (ignition to II, depress pedal several times, let the car do its thing).
Result: Better (car started immediately and ran well)
Next: Symptoms returned but not as bad. Removed Bleed air valve and inspected o-ring. Found the o-ring to be ok but the valve was completely blocked. Removed the bleed air valve and purged the system and problem resolved. Ordered a replacement Bleed air valve. Whilst waiting for the BAV to arrive, during starting, the car would start first time then after a few seconds the engine would shudder and stall. Extremely difficult to restart.
Next: BAV arrived today and I fitted it and purged the system several times. Car started ok and pump noise was minimal.
However... on the subsequent drive home the car lost power and stalled on several occasions each time requiring a purge and foot flat to the floor with extended cranking to re-start.
I have inspected the fuel system throughout and can not find any leaks. I know that half of you will say fuel pump and the other half will say injector seals... but is there anywhere else I should be looking?
Also if anyone can point me in the direction of a knowledgeable td5 mechanic in Darwin I would really appreciate it.

+1 ^^^, but as you are already there check for oil in the ECU red plug and upper rocker cover plug and if there is any replace the injector loom too at the same time, dont forget to reset injector clearances as well

I have heard of stories where the fuel pump gets noisy and its the injector seals and washer.
It does sound like it is getting air in the systems somewhere
It's not about air, it's about combustion gasses(compression) getting into the fuel rail through the injector copper washers and creating backpressure in the fuel supply through the injector's fuel return ports, the o-rings would let only fuel into the oil, see attachment, it's just a rudimentary scheme to show the gist of it

Thanks for the replies. Looks like injector seals it is.
I started at mesh filter behind fuel pump regulator with new gaskets on reinstall then did copper washers, this was after fuel pump, fuel filter and having system checked to the block. Had no issues since.
