Question Rear door check strap post sheared

The rear door check-strap post has sheared off leaving a small stub out of reach. What's the usual fix for this issue (I assume it is common)?

Happened to me too, i drilled a bit and inserted a closed end short rivnut(can't remember exactly what size cos i have a box full of all dimensions) cut the bolt as to let the strap move and used loctite on it to not be affected by the strap's movement... it's been so for a few years now without probs

How thick is the steel that the post was attached to and that your rivnut is now imbedded?
