After a week long saga of non communication and general customer service slackness I finally today got my D2 back with its new head and hopefully this is the end of the rising oil levels. After spending about six grand on the work and an AMC head it should be good right ? Fingers crossed....
My immediate impression is that it seems to be a bit down on power from idle - easily stalled when it didn't used to be and the "dead spot" up to about 1900rpm seems "deader" than it was. It doesn't seem to have the same "urge" as it did either.
Maybe it's just me after spending a week in a thoroughly boring VW Golf which is a dead set rocket ship compared to a D2 Td5....
For me, being in a D2 is a much better place to be than a Golf.

For you guys with slotted and drilled rotors - is there maybe something wrong with your braking systems? Why you would need better braking than a good working standard set up is beyond me. Nothing else I drive stops this good. Enlighten me about the error of my braking ways.
Larger diameter tyres reduce braking capacity so improving brakes is a big plus, and having driven cars that can pull up from 210km/h to 60km/h in about 5-60m, any road vehicles brakes suck in comparison.....
I'm hoping better brakes also mean better/more effective TC with bigger tyres.

FWIW, pedal pressure needed vs the outright ability to pull up in an emergency or just hard braking don't directly correlate.

The few times I put someone behind the wheel of a race car that had only ever driven road cars they initially scared themselves as they actually had to really push on the rock hard pedal, but a rock hard pedal means security to a racer and the ability to feel and modulate as you are always on the verge of lockup, something we don't need to do with ABS.

Don’t forget that they look like racecar brakes, which makes me smile every time I get in it! A td5 racing car. Haha.

Drilled is **** on an off-roader and induces weak points and cracking.

Slotted helps outgassing but in my application also clean debris from the face and water is dispatched quicker after a crossing so quicker brake recovery.

And the bite from my combo is amazing.

And NOW it seems like I have a wounded MAF with limited life left in it. Nanocom airflow reading at idle about 39 and at about 3,000rpm wide open throttle under load never more than about 300. With the MAF disconnected the "bum feel" is that it's smoother and has more "urge". A generous blast or 10 of CRC MAF cleaner has made not a jot of difference to the readings.

Going back through my fuel logs it seems that over last few months consumption has risen from mid 9's l/100km to mid 10's. I'd put that down to the cracked head putting the excess in the oil when it could've been the MAF in the process of karking it.

Any harm driving around with the MAF disconnected until I can get a new one ?

Some might buy them for looks .

Some actually fit them for better braking .

What you guy`s miss is the majority of people that fit better brakes is not just for looks they actually like a better brake package for other reason`s

Yes a D2 is not a race car but quite a few remap their cars , run bigger tyres , better turbos , run extra weight with accessories or tow, put bigger motors in ect .

Yes i run slotted front and back , Reasons for me majorly are as follows as has mostly been stated previously ,

    Better Feel ,

    Better gas dispensation ,

    Cleaning the rotors ,

Reduced brake fade in overheating ,

Yes the T/C feels better in my opinion ,

Yes the H/D feels better in my opinion,

Am i happy with my choice yes ,

Would i do it to the next car yes ,

Do i feel the benefit out ways the cost yes ,

My car run`s heavier than standard due a lot of accessories , i have performance mods and i tow on and off road , I run bigger tyres , Extra fuel capacity .

Do i like the look well i don`t take any notice of the look of my brakes or anyone else`s for that.

It is simple don`t knock some one else`s choice for up grading for their personal choice or reasons .

If you don`t want to upgrade and are happy with your set up that is fine no one is knocking you for that .

I made my choice for my personal reasons and circumstances pretty simple in my book.

And a brake upgrade is no different to modifying the engine, suspension, tyres, adding a roof rack or fridge....
It suits a person's wants or needs better than the stock product. What happened to your Discovery 2 today?

I have been asked by a member how I fitted in the oil catch can between the suspension tower and the PS pipes.
The answer is "With great difficulty"
I did several mock ups until I found a way.
I have posted some more photos below which shows where it fits with an actual camera.

I think if you were to hold the catch can in the position that is pretty clearly shown in picture 1 then you could work out brackets to fit it there.
