Having 2 already socketed MSB units on hand also helped , mine is 99 disco 2 with 10p eu2.

Also (now I can read the tuning files with enough understanding to be dangerous) if you have a eu2 10p motor the default fallback value if your MAF carks it is a big fat 0, so if you have EGR delete pipe on 10p save your money if MAF dies as it is not used for anything else.

I also test drove with MAF plugged in and unplugged and it made no difference to my auto shifting either, which was the only thing I thought it might possibly affect (guesswork as not documented anywhere).

15p eu3 donks DO use MAF for fueling so that's another story.
10p maf sensor comes in handy for stopping the air filter getting sucked into the turbo. A very happy and satisfiing delete otherwise.

He said, nope not the starter, he couldn't get the key to turn in the ignition and also the steering wheel is locked up. He tried locking unlocking on the fob and the door, still no joy. I told him to put the battery on charge (probably on the way out) so far still no luck.
Soooo brains trust, what now? is it a barrel lock issue? battery? a remote locking issue? or something else random.... Also just as a side note, due to over heating it previously and subsequent head gasket replacement, the electric fan runs constantly, I haven't found anyone yet with a Nanocom to reset this and scan for errors (anyone in the south west WA???) would this be a factor in the no start issue?? Previous to this it has been running like a dream instead of the nightmare it was when we got it...

    cheers

Lots of dry lube and then some graphite into the barrel to free the sticking pins may get it going.

Yes, he's tried wiggling, turning and using all sorts of four letter words, begging and pleading even threats of violence and boxes of matches

but sadly he borrowed our car this morning. It has been playing up occasionally but nothing this bad, so looks like I know what my project will be over the weekend.... I have read about the Defenders having barrel lock issues, something about the back of the lock giving way and then it doesn't disengage properly, hopefully it will be an easy fix.

    cheers

The wheel will turn slightly one way, against tension, hold the steering wheel still and try the key. It does seem that the steering wheel is preventing the key from turning.

Before I had a Land Rover I did not have any torque wrenches. Now I have three.

You were pretty much on the money. I was chatting with the young bloke last night (I'm away with work) told him to get some CRC (I'm not a bit fan but it will do the trick) he squirted some in the barrel, messed around with the key for about 5 minutes with no luck, just as he's about to get a box of matches (well not quite but he getting very frustrated at the Red Rig..) then old Disco decides to just start as if nothing had ever happened. So this another little job to deal with on the weekend, strip the and clean the barrel.

Funniest part was my young bloke, one minute he's ready to burn the Disco to the ground, next minute so happy his Red Rig is up and running again, must be a Land Rover thing

    thanks to all

    cheers

Nothing so much has happened, but is in the process of happening. Bit of a small side project for the ol girl. Started painting up the original factory 18's that came on the car when i bought it. Picked up some fairly good condition rubber for cheap to go on later.

Keep in mind that the previous owner had done an appalling job painting the rims (and half the bloody car What happened to your Discovery 2 today? What happened to your Discovery 2 today? ) so as far as i was concerned the wheels were basically stuffed and couldn't be returned to standard.

That’s why I ran internal bead locks. Both beads covered and no potential rim damage.
