Yes they drive good even on a vnt as I have tried serval of them but the auto dies shortly after with any sort of decent power and now moving onto zf8hp with my td5 making 260bhp and 600nm
Hey Kaaaiju, does TCT supply and install?

Cool, thanks! They sent me this also:

    Hi Simon,

Yes, that's right. The converter is built using a V8 core with heavy duty internals and tweaked to a lower stall. We modify the base to suit a TD5 drive plate, so no need to use any adapters.

Price wise, this modification costs $1,600 + GST if you can supply us with a workable V8 converter. If you are unable to source one, we can supply our core for an additional $600 + GST.

As for installing it, that is not something we do. We only do the converter side of things. You would need to visit your local transmission specialist if you require assistance for removal & refit.

If you require any more information, please let us know.

    Thanks.

    Cheers

I think TCT is the mob I got my upgraded flat plate from.

$1600, it would need to be good. But I guess I can find it if I’m taking the engine out anyway.

    As in the flex plate?

I think if fitting a TCT converter, it would be worth an upgraded flex plate too. Ashcroft have HD Td5 ones also.

Thats my thing, I think my TC is a bit flogged out anyway, but the whole weighing up between:

Td5 upgraded, 4HP22 upgraded, TCT TC
    Td5 upgraded, 8HP
    M57, 6HP
    M57 8HP

I want to do heavy towing with it, but the balance between what you get and the cost.

My feeling is the M57 twin turbo and 6HP on my garage floor is probably still the best option for power and reliability, its just a fair bit of work and I still need to confirm fitment solutions with the twin turbo and a viable ACE pump solution.

To be honest, at the moment I'm thinking the TCT TC would be enough - a very easy solution, and the run the M57 into a GU Patrol - another straight forward solution.
    Cheers

I am doing a td5 8sp swap now so hopefully it goes as good as people say

I hope so, it surely has to be better than the 4HP with a slippery torque converter! Hopefully it is perfect for your big HP upgrades.
    Cheers

Nope, the TC. My budget is possibly a leetle bit different to yours. I upgraded the flex plate some years back when I replaced the auto ( secondhand, still going ).

I'd love to put an M57 in mine, and reasonable X5s are cheap, but what a can of worms on my budget. Think I'll try and source a V8 TC from my local indie, who has a "few" cars. But we'll see. The new head will stretch me. But after seeing 130° on the nano I can't see the old one not being stuffed.

    Oh well.
I attempted to take mine to Pirie after telling my brother it was getting a bit strange just jumping in it and only needing to refuel instead of fixing some niggle every few months so it promptly started getting hot only 20k from leaving home, so turned around and parked it, couple days ago i decided to test it by doing a short run down the expressway and it did it again.

So this morning I go out front to move it into the carport to check the issue and drivers door won't open.

Now it is in carport after I jumped in from passenger door and I am trying to get door card off a non opening drivers door but looks like I'll need to get seat out to get to a couple of the lower door panel screws.

Oh well, I gave up and left it for tomorrow or whenever, will watch tv coz that's what you do when you have a D2.
