I would bet that any exhaust place would have that welded up quick smart and relatively cheaply.
Hi All,
our Disco 2 (MY03, V8) gave us a bit of an adventure today. Out on the Brindabella Road, about half-way between Canberra and Tumut the exhaust downpipe (downstream of the exhaust manifold) sheared (check out the attached photo). I'm not sure if it had previously been welded/patched up, or whether it looks like that as standard (that lip above the crack). Anyway, we limped home (noisily). Can anyone suggest where I can pick up a replacement at a sensible price and/or a reliable place to get it repaired or replaced around Canberra or Queanbeyan? Cheers, Simon

Simon,
Don't bother with getting it welded up. 4X4 Spares up in the Hunter Valley sell a replacement down pipe with flex joint to suit your D2 that will also bypass the OEM cat converter that isn't applicable under ADR's.
I bought 1 for my D2 over 5 years ago and it was a beauty right up until I sold my good old D2 and bought a D4
Ahhhh.....see reason for edit - silly me!

..I did spot a V8 compatible version: "Terrafirma Silencer Replacement Down Pipe Discovery 2 Td5 & V8 1998-2004 TF559".. interestingly every Australian advert I can find for it says somewhat engimatically "Offroad use only"... hmm... so how do you get the car to the 'offroad' location in the first place? Sounds like a CYA tactic... taking it to an Exhaust shop in a minute... I hope this isn't going to be expensive... :-(
sound a bit better?

They are designed for D2 farm paddock bashers.
Second hand pipes aren't that expensive.
Re the exhaust shop, hope you find a Land Rover friendly one.
I has a similar prob before xmas. Rang an exhaust shop and he was quite rude on the phone when I said it was a Discovery. He said and also what else is wrong with it.
I got my back up and told him off and said he obviously doesn't need the CASH!
Thanks Roverlord - yes, I managed to find a Landy friendly Exhaust shop - Tuggeranong Muffler & Exhaust Centre (for the record). $250... not sure if that's a good or bad price, but given they've got me back on the road and it obviously wasn't the easiest job to do and obviously required a good degree of welding skill I can't say I'm unsatisfied. (particularly when it's easy these days to spend $250 on any old rubbish).
Thanks everyone for the feedback, it's much appreciated.
