    Engine Oil Cooler

I am installing a factory oil cooler on a 2003 YM and I'm having some problems getting the passenger side pipe connected into the port which I believe is the one higher up behind the oil filter. I did have success getting the driver side (NA, left side) connected to the bottom port of the front cover, if this is where it belongs. It seemed like the right-side pipe was bottoming out in the port before the threads of the nut could make contact. I tried rotating the pipe at various angles and never could get it to seat in like the other pipe was going into the bottom orifice. the pipes are in good condition, so I was stumped yet continued throwing everything I had to it for hours and hours with no success. I ended up having to disconnect the bottom pipe, and replace the plug until I figure out whats going on with the other pipe-to-pump connection. I would appreciate any feedback to this and really some pictures too, as I could not find any pictures or diagrams of how this assembly should appear tied into the cover/pump. I just can't believe I had to give up on such a simple job. At the same time, I had no clear references to guide me.

PS: I checked that the pipe I was having trouble with was not damaged by threading it in to the bottom port where I had the left side pipe connected. I was able to connect them both on that one.

Nobody can tell me anything? I have posted on 2 forums and directly messaged 2 people and haven't received a single response all day. In the meantime I have 1 cooler line hanging underneath my sump and a truck running 20 or 30 degrees hotter than it should be.

I'd wonder what else could cause overheating?

thank you, this does help. I never came across this picture in my searches. This confirms that I was routing the pipes to their proper location, but the one nearest the oil filter is not connecting. The pipe is in good shape, but seems to bottom-out before I can get the threads started on the coupler. You are right about these coolers being deleted for the more popular year models, which is why I sourced one from a earlier D2 and trying to make the swap.
The thing is, I have tried attaching that pipe from whichever angle possible and I can never get it seated into the port. There are no obstructions, the angles aren't so much that the pipe can't make its way all the way in, or so it seems. I don't know whats going on here without completely removing that front cover and having the parts right in front of my face. I just can't find anyone that says, "I had the same problem, here is what needs to be done."
thanks again for taking the time.

The only reason LR could have for deleting the cooler is they wanted more heat.
But the D2's run at 96 just like the 2A's..

funny how a good oil is the one thing not affected by heat rise,, unlike say, alloy heads, steel liners,

if possible move that pipe out of the way and use a small mirror or even take pictures with the camera on your phone to see if there is anything down in the hole maybe an "O" ring is sitting in the bottom of the hole stopping pipe going all the way in.

The plug that came out of that hole compare the threads with the pipe union, just to make sure the threads are the same.
