    Smile No clutch after replacement

    Good morning Brains trust.

    I had a screaming thrust bearing so I ordered a new Valeo clutch kit, thurst bearing, clutch and pressure plate, bush. Took it to the mechanic and he also found the flywheel was stuffed. So that gets replaced too.

    Now the real problems start. Everything gets put back together but no peddle. So they replace the slave cylinder. Still no peddle, so the master cylinder goes. Now we have peddle but the clutch isnt engaging enough to engage a gear. If the engine is stopped you can shift all gears, Once its running with your foot on the clutch you cant shift the lever into gear.

    Mechanic is pulling out his hair. He now hates landrovers. Ive gone over, aside from the peddle being much lighter now (I know the old clutch was stuffed so I assume the new peddle is light because the equipment is right ish) I cant feel anything wrong. I can shift all gears with the engine off or the transfer case in neutral but once the engine runs nothing? Weve replaced everything so whats left? Its like the push rod isnt engaging the pressure plate enough. Could it be the slave cylinder isnt big enough? Mechanic says its right but I am baffled and I want the damn car back.

    Spigot bush too tight ?, friction plate wrong way round ? , the friction plate boss faces the flywheel on these which is opposite to most vehicles which type of flywheel was it replaced with ? , the only other thing I can think of at this hour is that it mightn't be bled properly but your mechanic and you would know what that would feel like , what happens if you start it in gear with the hand brake on and pedal depressed?.

    How competent is the spanner man
    Did he get a off sider to do it ?
    The reason i say this is because the symptoms you are having suggests the clutch plate is in the wrong way around

    Chris is onto it i reckon. These friction plates go in the opposite way to what almost every other clutch does..😮

    This happened to many of us, to me too first time when the clutch was changed the mechanic fitted the drive plate reverted... if your mechanic has good memory he'll know how he fitted it and tell him that the correct way is like in the pic with that side toward the flywheel otherwise it behaves exactly like you decribed

    As above- plate is in backward.

    Out of interest, do you still pay for the replacement slave and master cylinders if the fault was caused by them not fitting the parts correctly?

    Ok its going again. Turned out it was the wrong replacement slave cylinder. A bigger bore so not enough throw. Makes sense really. They pulled it all apart again yesterday and apparently it was in correctly.

    The reason the slave cylinder was wrong apparently is because IT WAS IN THE WRONG BOX.

    Anyway, thanks Brains trust. I was baffled didnt know what to do next. Thanks for the replies.

    Driving for 2 days. Fantastic to have it working properly again.
