Terrafirma rear diff guard
I fitted the above a while ago. There started a rattle at the back of the Disco that bugged me and found the top plate mountings cracked through.
I fitted it with the vibration weight in place, I'm not sure this was correct?? Especially as another brand says remove it.
As no parts are available I will get it welded by a mate.
Should I remove the weight next time? I have read on here they are not really necessary and could the extra thickness be my problem? I figure it's there for a reason.
Terrafirma supply no instructions, so not much help there.

Not sure that the dampener weight would have caused the cracking. More likely the so so construction of Terra Firma . The weight removal seems to be a preference, some say they notice a difference in ride quality and others note no difference at all.

I wasn't thinking the weight was an issue but the thickness of the bracket.
The bracket is about 10mm thick and might be changing the way it fits around the diff.
I found the front one moving so packed it with rubber.

ahh oki. so you fitted the bash plate tabs over the dampener plate? Yes, quite possible the design is such that it sits directly on the diff housing , it may have put some stress on the tabs, although you would think it to be a trivial amount? unless you are dropping the vehicle onto rocks and such and the plate is taking the brunt?

Bashing the plate on anything hasn't happened yet.bb
It has done a few rough dirt roads though.

Well a welder mate TIG welded the bracket back together.
He talked about heating and cooling it slowly to re-soften the metal from the fatigue. Sounded all professional.
This time I removed the harmonic weight before fitting the diff guard. Seems to fit better.
