Hydraulic handbrakes are a big no, small leak brake releases and away it goes
I was considering this setup for my Defender,but some members have had problems with the caliper NOT holding the weight and releasing.I don't think you can get sufficient force on the caliper to provide a firm hold.That's why Disc brakes have always needed a booster,you can't push hard enough with your foot alone.The only advantage you get with this setup is it doesn't fill with mud as does the drum.For this reason alone I might still get one.Quote:

I always pull the handbrake too tight in my dad's navara, to which he prods 'it's not a land rover', although ironically his slips and mine doesn't...

Another classic example of trying to fix something that isn't broken with something that has more shortcomings than benefits.
If you're that worried when you pull up, bung a wheel chock behind one of the van wheels. If you're on a slippery muddy hill as mentioned, you'll have the centre diff lock in anyway.
a couple of chocks and diff lock engaged is the best cheapest option, sounds great to me, just going through the check list b4 hand.
