Haha. You get problems with every type. How has it been treated? How many k's? You also have to remember that it has a fair bit more on it and therefore a fair bit more to go wrong than a RRC. Cheers
I had my last range rover for 8 years she had all the ARB goodies front / rear bars , difflocks front rear / 3.9v8 5 speed , 3 batteries . endless air system , full roof rack , near on every extra ,, we towed our 24 foot Huntsman everywhere and never once had a breakdown ,,
normal servicing , oil change check adjust ect ect ,,,
Now i have a later discovery its like a new car every day ?
as in what will bust today ,,
Im getting to the point where i am worried even seeing if it will start without lights on the dash blinking saying NO NO SORRY NOT TODAY !
do you guys put up with this or did i just get a crap car ,,
I have never owned a car that has let me down so many time in the first 3 months ?
I wish i had my rangy back
I have talked to people that have said ,,
"OH I HAVE A NOISE FROM MY GEARBOX <<<
I WILL JUST WRECK IT AND GET ANOTHER ??
REALLY ?
I HAD A LADA NIVA THAT WAS MORE RELIABLE THAN THIS PIECE OF CRAP !
OH WELL I WILL GET THE TOYOTA OUT THE GARAGE AGAIN ,,,,,
THE LAND ROVER CAN SIT TILL IT WANTS TO PLAY ,,
LAZY CRAP CAR

I believe they need to go back to being a great 4x4 not a wire loom on wheels ,,,
Thought i was buying a car not a ongoing project ,,,
Getting over it real fast ,,
think it will be gone soon ,,,,
I give it 3 months if it don't start getting better it will be wrecked out never to be a pain again ,,,
I would love to dissect it ,,, starting to think inflicting pain on this car would be fun !
real fun !
I feel your pain re the electronics believe me. All modern cars face those gremlins as they age. Mine took 15 years... Unfortunately I like the creature comforts and safety so I won't go backwards in years. Cheers
Buy any vehicle manufactured in this century and that is what you are getting.
My D2, like the Defender before it, did roughly 80,000 km in 8 years - mostly in Arnhem Land. Both of those vehicles stood me up once (as the D3 has done inside the first year). The Defender clutch failed and the D2 spat an idler pulley for the drive belt. Can happen on any vehicle.
That said, I researched the vehicles as much as I could before I bought them, had them inspected by a third party prior to sale and read up on what things I might need to fix over time. I did this with the 2006 Toyota Tarago we bought in 2012 too.
Am I lucky and are you unlucky? I don't know. But I have known very new cars of different manufacturers to have lots of issues. I think it comes down to the vehicle in this case rather than the make as a whole.
I loved the D2 so am sorry that your experience hasn't been a pleasant one.
Cheers, Dale

funny thing i have a Tickford fairlane (1999) with the same ZF4-hp22 ,
same Air suspension same abs asme traction control electronic diff lock ,,, and It has never missed a beat ,,
I wonder it they thought lets get the electronics out of a passenger car and stick them in a 4X4 she will be right ,,, then after being dunked and rocked and rolled they just are not up to the challenge ,,,
San really i had a tow truck in the UK it was a 110 v8 ,,same never missed a beat ,, i have had so many land rovers but never heard of a series that breaks down as much as the D2 ,,
Maybe they should have recalled all the D2`s and crushed them as to not lessen the brand ?
will be a long time before i buy another ,,
May start wrecking them tho as every one needs parts for theres ...
Can't agree Rob. Please...you must have had a version of a Ford built on a separate line by the senior engineers on a Wednesday. My d2 has been far more reliable than my many vehicles before it including Oz built. I have had my d2 since new and have looked after it. The d2 auto is a great box and had no history of mechanical problems. Very very few problems. The ABS modulator is another story but easy to fix if you follow the advice on this board. Mate it sounds like you are not up for post mid 90's LR ownership and should probably sell the d2.
Cheers
no sympathy from me either,, you've barely scratched the surface on what goes wrong with these things,,
its a 20 year old car designed 30 years ago,, get over it,,![]()

It's a dud. If they were all like yours seems to be then nobody would have them.
I think you need to remember that the D2 was a seriously advanced car on release. Streets ahead of a RRC or D1 on every level, with many more things that can go wrong. But that applies to all modern cars. Not 5 k's from where I sit there is a 2013 200 Series V8 wagon with less than 100,000 on the clock. It has had the engine out twice because you couldn't drive behind it 'cos of the smoke.
My car has done 300,000 odd. In that time it has done one head gasket (240,000), the SLS played up, popped the exhaust manifold stud, and the auto died at 300,000. I don't reckon that's too bad. Sure, there have been niggles. The security system is haunted I reckon, but now I've got a Nanocom I reckon I'll exorcise that particular poltergeist. Wish the EF was that good.
I agree with ozscott. Sell it and move on.
