What does it get up the Tele Track and Peninsula Developmental Road in the dry season?
Do you think it would beat 14lt / 100kms of the TD5?
Hi all, just a quick update on the 4.6 high compression stock P38a motor with the Thor goodies.
Just did a 2500k road trip through NSW and back to Brisbane. 5 people and all their luggage. Literally could not stuff another water bottle in the truck. Stacking to roof made easier with shelf that I made for the rear (and Milford barrier) . Lots of weight. 2 inch lift, steel bullbars and sliders, 3 x roof bars (rhino) and roof lights on but no basket this time. 31 in light truck tyres.
Ran like a dream with great stonk. In 5th it just pulled hard. Have to really watch it at 110 to 115 as it just wants to race away from there. Up hills laden you really notice the 4.6 versus the 4.0. Up the Toowoomba range making it work in 4th at the top it got to 92 degrees. Most of the time on the highway flats it was 86_87. Up longer Hills at 110 in 5th it would get to 90-92.
The leg up and from the Toowoomba range to first fill averaged 13.7 litres per 100k. On a nice flat section heading up the coastal route it was 12.63 litres per 100k but that was 80 kph in quite a few bits. Tyre pressures were 40 rear and 30 front.
Pic attached of exhaust pipe. Nice and grey. Stock ECU from my original 4.0 and stock MAF and intake so no need to change anything I feel.
Hope that helps anyone looking at a 4.6 upgrade or trying to compare fuel figures from a similarly laden and lifted Td5. She is a very quiet smooth and powerful ride with the 4.6 and20160926_130813.jpg 31 inch tyres mean the whole thing is geared well for highway travelling and economy also.
Cheers

Haha. I will let you know next June.... It will be higher on the Offroad bits for sure!
Cheers
ozscott, are those petrol usage numbers or an equivalent of LPG?
eg. 12L petrol = 21.4L LPG at 62c v $1.10 ?
No mate tanks are gone in favour of more space for all the camping and other gear. I just needed the room. The figures are accurate. I have calibrated my odometer for the increased tyre size based on actual distances and GPS recorded speeds etc. It was a long trip so plenty of fill ups to the same level each time and also taking readings over a long distance.
Perhaps mine runs a little lean... Although the fuel trims are excellent and on the highway long trims are zero or only very slightly negative. Exhaust pipe is dark grey not white or very light grey. Heaps of grunt and no pinging. I put it down to the 5 speed manual and 4.6 with taller gearing afforded by the taller tyres. Having said that I normally get 15.5 to 16 in town...
Cheers
Gotta be happy with that.
The 4L intake might be restrictive but fuel ratios should still be correct if running the 4L software I would think. Is that right?
The Thor 4.0 and 4.6 engines have the same inlet systems - my understanding is that it is just the programming of the ECUs is a little different.

Yep just the programing. There has been a detailed thread on this with Mark Adams and Pedro posting up detailed info. I have just got lucky with mine I think in running the stock engine management for the 4.0.
Cheers
Scott, that's good. You must be happy with that!
Btw - Exhaust colour test is no good nowadays - no Lead![]()
