Thread: Auto box woes (M & S Flashing)...

We are still in business, hooked up a nanocom and cleared all faults on all the ECU's and nothing is reoccurring and car has been behaving since reinstallating everything. I would not try to repair the loom on the car unfortunately, it was only the very last second of stripping it all down that I noticed the nick in the cable. I have attached a picture below so you can see the problem area once the tape and shielding has been removed. Hopefully it will help someone in the future.

XYZ switch installation was pretty easy, bloody taking the exhaust off... LR having a laugh to make some more money... with 2 people, adjustment of the XYZ was easy enough. Neutral seemed to be the gear with the least tolerance so when we had that lit up at a good spot we knew we were all good.

Only problem is... we know there is a CDL to be activated under there so the rivets will be coming off again in the future .

Well it's been playing up again. Firstly noticing harsh shifts into 2nd gear... now it seems after the car has ran for a while it will decide to start flashing the m and s again... and it seems after a long while of waiting it will behave briefly but maybe for a few minutes before its flashing again. .

Xyz adjustment seemed to maybe help a little but again for a few minutes...

Got to get my hands on some diagnostics... Hint hint @AussiaAub .

Just a follow up post, after much head scratching, playing with nanocom we believe the xyz switch may be faulty but testing of this component and servicing of it showed it was fine. In the end, after wire tracing and continuity testing I found a rather scratch connection. In the end it turns out it was a loose connection under the center console to the gearbox ECU from the previous disassembly and when giving it some acceleration the plug was moving and not making contact and triggering the gearbox to go into limp . It was fine until you pulled some G's with the torque of the tuned motor!

M&S Flashing after driving through water

Hoping someone can help me! Drove though a puddle of water last week and gearbox starting hunting for gears and M&S lights came on and have stayed on ever since. Stuck in limp mode. When I turn on the ignition without even starting the motor, the lights start flashing. I have removed the xyz switch and serviced it (not for the first time) but it seemed dry. I checked all the connections at the gearbox and sprayed them and cleaned them - they too appeared dry. Checked earths and also starter solenoid lead, but no change. The lights flash on the dash only not at the gear selector. Battery is strong and while I found some oil in the harness to ECU, I've cleaned that and can't believe that's the problem, especially when this all started going through a pool of water. I have had my mechanic hook it up to his Delphi scanner and the following faults appear and can't be cleared:

Solenoid valve lock up clutch. Short to ground/open circuit. Some other similar fault codes (Solenoid Valve 1 & 2)

Can anyone advise could the XYZ switch still be faulty?
Where is the "console" with 14 rivits?!
Am I right in interpreting the fault codes as a short some where in the harness between XYZ switch and gearbox?

    Many thanks for your help!

The auto trans ECU is under the front passenger seat, you could check the harness there for damage or water ingress.

    M&S lights on constantly

Thanks for that suggestion. I had a quick look and couldn't see anything but I will see if I can remove that ECU and do more detailed examination.
Anyone got any idea where is the "console" which is rivitted to the chassis? Is it just being the hear shifter?

I found a good video which shows how to remove the console.

    YouTube

I removed the passenger seat to examine the auto control ECU. This gave me more room to work on the console. I eventually came to the harness which was covered in a heat resistant cover. It looked intact, but when I opened it I found a broken wire. So I have resoldered this and recovered the harness with duct tape. Hopefully that is the problem solved. I have some photos but can't see here how to post them. Thanks everyone for your help.
