G,day Ean
Probably the best solution would be an ATB diff in the tc, then if he wants more just add as required, it'll transform the car on gravel roads as well.
Gday All,
A bloke who works near me asked me today what do most people without the CDL do. Buy a TC with 1 or fit diff lock or locks ?
I don't know how serious 4wding he does but for what it's worth i will ask the question. Pretty sure his is a TD5 if that makes any difference.
Thanks and Cheers Ean

No point adding diff locks until you can lock the cdl.
So first step is to either get a lockable TC or retrofit the CDL to your existing one.
I retrofitted a CDL kit. Bought from an AULRO member - I think it originally came from Ashcroft.
Thanks guys , I can only assume he has checked to make sure it doesn't have a CDL . My D2 had it so its new to me.
I did think the retrofit was going to be the answer but worth asking the question.
Thanks again.
Cheers Ean
Hi
I have a D2 2001 TD5
no CDL fitted at all and as a result it wasn't great on Sand..if you stopped in soft sand ..that was it stuck
I had to use silly revs and speed to climb and keep traction
so bought a TC with CDL and fitted - with original linkages, knob and stickers
all good and it improved performance on sand dramatically
so that worked well for me
cheers

Gday Ean
The '02 models didnt have a CDL fitted. Older models had the CDL bits in the TC but the shifter didnt engage the lock without modification. 04 models had the CDL as standard.
AFAIK the TC from a D1 will fit as well, as i dont think they changed at all between models. I suggest that because it might be cheaper. Someone may be able to confirm.
Hope that helps.
Dan
Hi Ean,
Pity you don't live closer I have got a CDL T/C with a fitting kit I bought from TRS, I no longer need it now. I would have sold it on.
Cheers Marty
To be precise.
Up to 2001 the nose of the transfer case had the innards of the CDL and the lever on top of the nose.
The 2002 model did not have the lever on the case, and no drilling etc, and there was no selector shaft or dog clutch inside.
All models up to 2002 did not have any of the linkages or knob assembly to change into diff lock.
I bought a disassembled early diff lock nose and fitted it and also bought a set of linkages from a wrecker, and the factory linkages are in high demand and therefore expensive. I paid $450 .
There are several how tos if googled.
