Brilliant thanks guys. I'm not a mechanic, but since getting my 1st Landy in January I'm learning fast! I'm finding it quite fun actually

Spray the uni joints and ball with lube. Test drive down the street. If noise is gone, you know the culprit. Park it up until fixed.

Thanks again to everyone for their help. This morning I bought a new prop assembly from Triumph Rover Spares in Lonsdale.

And replaced the old one. Here's a close up. If you look carefully, it looks like the bearings have fallen out of 1 joint. There's a fair amount of free play in the old 1.

So now I'm going to store the old shaft & rebuild it over the next 1 - 1.5 years.

Thanks again everyone, ur advice was spot on.

You could have a problem like this with the double cardan:

    Definitely squeaks.

Lol! Yes I think I got off easy! Took the opportunity to grease up the rear 1 while I was under there

So do the double Cardan unis have drillings down the middle?

It looks from your photo that they do.

If so one could drill into a cap and screw a nipple in and regrease them . then place a small plug where the nipple was.

Seeing some unis have a grease nipple in the end anyway, this would appear to be acceptable practice.
What do people think? Worth doing?

The one in my picture was a greasable unit. The strange thing was that only 1 of the bearings was totally shot. Maybe my grease regime was lacking but I suspect that one of the cups was not being greased properly.

My double cardan uni didn't have any grease nipples. Strange, I've heard that that's how they came out from the factory, but you can see that all the bolts have been taken off at some time.
