    Is it normal?

My steering box was replaced with a new(not recon) Adwest unit not long ago, from day one untill now the steering seems stiffer than it was with the old worn box, is this normal? .... it's not very stiff like there is no servo assistance just a bit stiffer than it was and the steering wheell doesnt come back well by itself like it did before, it needs some help... i thought it would settle but now i want some confirmation.... it's well bled and the pressure is OK, my mechanic measured it but didnt touch the adjuster... shall i loosen the adjuster a bit?

Check the operation of the damper first , and while it's off go for a drive to see if it improves, if not , jack the front wheels off the ground and feel for any tight spots before backing off the adjuster , it can also be ball joints or bad wheel alignment, why w as the box replaced?

Hi, thanks for the reply, the ball joints, track rod ends, steering damper are all new cos they were destroyed by a long trip with speed on a motorway full of holes in Macedonia, the box was affected as well cos it started to leak and got a play in the shaft... the alignment was done as well...it had 180k miles in it so not dissappointed too much...i think the new one is just simply overtightened

If the damper isn't designed for the d2 and Is too stiff it'll cause this , also does your mechanic know these run toe out re wheel align ?.When you check the adjustment turn the wheel all the way left and right feeling for any tight spots especially in the middle ( engine off , wheels off the ground) if there's no area that's tighter than the other then the box isn't over adjusted ....... 2 minutes damper off , go for a drive first

I'm on 245/70/16 Cooper Discoverer AT3 which were on before that new box too and the steering was lighter....i'm confident that it's only an adjustment issue, i'll go to my mechanic in 3 hours from now and we'll see.....i'll post the result
