    silicon removal

    Hi all can anyone tell me the best way to silicon from the grove around the rocker cover as I need to replace the gasket after I replace the fuel injection harness. I was going to use a brass wire wheel on my drill at low speed but don't think that would be wise any help much appreciate.

    A small flat blade screw driver with reasonably sharp edges is what I usually use to remove silicone sealant out of grooves.

    Selleys manufacture a gel that removes silicone - its a bit expensive but readily available from hardwares stores. Does a good job in places difficult to access. You do need to ensure its all removed because it has some acidity which if left can be a problem down the line.

    Make sure you use a genuine gasket without silicone. I replaced mine with aftermarket and could not stop it leaking no matter what i did. I then took advice from this site, replaced it with genuine and it has not leaked since.

    have changed the gasket twice in the last couple of years.
    the first time was due to oil in the injector harness... it leaked after that

    the second time I replaced because the leak was annoying. This time I also replaced the cover bolts and seals (about $14 extra for these from memory) and no leaks since. It appears that the leaks are more likely to be around the bolt seals rather than the gasket itself

    Thanks to all who gave advise I went to Bunnings and purchased a small set of 3 brushes one wire one brass and one a hard plastic worked a charm silicon just fell off.
