    Gearbox mounts OEM or aftermarket?

Hi all. Is there much difference in terms of quality between oem and aftermarket gearbox mounts for TD5 disco2? There is quite a few options available online and was wondering which one to go for. Both my left and right mounts have worn off and need to be replaced. Cheers. C.

From my own experience only GENUINE are the way to go, OEM are better than aftermarket but not much, after i bought the D2 i fitted aftermarket without knowing anything about these things, they failed in a year, then i bought OEM which have lasted about twice of that .... then bit the bullet and fitted genuines and they are still going strong after more than 5 years.... i could have saved much money if i knew to get genuines from the beginning

What are the telltale signs that your mounts need replacing? Apart from getting underneath and inspecting them I mean.

The vehicle rattles in drive at stop. Take it to neutral rattling stops. Take it to reverse and start driving it rattles even more. Had a mechanic inspect it and said the transfer case mount right side needed replacing. I guess he meant gearbox mount.

Mine is manual and when the mounts were worn i felt it in the gear stick... i bought the mounts from lrdirect.uk(but afaik you have "Roverlord... " there for that) , though dont confuse OEM with Genuine cos there's a big difference(quality and price wise )

O.E = original equipment so usually the genuine part but not in Genuine packaging so generally a bit cheaper then buying Genuine EG Lemforder suspension parts are the genuine part, but will be sold as O.E, and genuine in Land Rover packaging

O.E.M = is original equipment manufacturer, this means it comes from the same factory as the Genuine part marker , generally pretty good parts, but may not be the same quality as O.E or Genuine.

A bit like say Coca Cola's Coke and then you had Farmlands Cola( made for Coles in bygone years,) Cola cola made it for Coles, but it was no comparison to Coke

Aftermarket: These are usually what the Brits call pattern parts, they vary in quality.

Often these parts actually weigh less than the Genuine part ( this means lighter materials or less density of material is used. Example take an TD5 O.E or Genuine Alternator and weigh it and then get a copy alternator and you'll find the copy usually from China, is lighter, so one can assume lesser quality components are used.

    Hope this helps.
    Cheers, Mario

X2 Correct Worn Engine mounts will transfer stress to the gearbox mounts and rip them quickly, hence failures of newly replaced gearbox mounts, often not the fault of the gearbox mount but the faulty engine mounts causing it.
