    LT230 noisy

Hello I have a noisy car, rumbles and a strong shake-vibration that peaks at 60kph. When I put the car into low range, all this vanishes. (well I don't get to 60 of course)
So I am thinking the high range gears-bearings are on the way out.
Is there a way to confirm this?
Like drain the oil, remove the bottom plate and see how much play is there? (Like I'd know)

Before I had a Land Rover I did not have any torque wrenches. Now I have three.

Sounds like the double cardan joint in the front drive shaft is almost ready to commit suicide and flail about wrecking the transmission. Stuffed bearings tend to make howling noises under load as the gears go slightly out of alignment.

X2 Check unis for slack front haft and rear shaft. The double cardan can be had to pin point while still on the car .
Can also be the rubber dounut

I've had a look at the double cardon and front uni joint, no movement. Gear in neutral What is the best way to check this? Jack up a wheel?
The rear doughnut looks good, no movement. The rubber looks in good nick .

The Hookes joint, wobbles a lot. I'd remove the propshaft except that the nut is smaller than a 15mm and larger than a 14mm, I'm guessing 9/16. Is that right? I thought the vehicles where metric. I can't get a ring spanner on it, not enough clearance, so I'll have to use and open ended one.

    TIA

Yep - A few very annoying nuts and bolts are still imperial... prop shaft nuts are 9/16".
