    TD5 D2 starter motor question

I've also asked this question in the 'what's happened to ur Discovery today' thread.

I've pulled my starter motor out as starting was getting temperamental. Sometimes it started sometimes just a clicking from drivers side of engine. Here's a pic of them points and plunger

But I noticed after cleaning all the oil & grease off it that the back O Ring is perishing as seen in this pic

Do I need to replace this as well or will it b ok? Given how difficult it is to get the top nut off I don't really want to pull it off again anytime soon!

Thanks TD5 D2 starter motor question

had the same issue last week. i just replaced the contacts and no problems since the clicking your getting is the plunger hitting one of the contacts, the lack of rotation is the plunger not bridging both all for the sake of $28.00 of fleabay. The rear seal you mention is not a serviceable item not actually sure if its a seal or just a collection of gunk. mines the same hasn't been an issue, more importantly since that is the mating face of the outer of the brushes and pole faces it should be fine.

Great. Thanks for the info. I think I'll let sleeping dogs lie, I've had no other issues with the starter motor since installation.
