I flogged the front shaft out of the old 99 model that I had overhauled at one time, that has me moblie.:D
If your theory or the prior one about a grub screw coming loose/lost is it much of a job to fix?:confused:
Can I put the CD from the 99 in and get away with it, pennies are a bit tight so one way or another I might just have to not go off road for a while.:censored:

Did you know that the 'transfer case cover and the plate mentioned are the only things holding the car together?:confused:
They bloody must be, they were done up tight enough to hold everything together, god I hate that.:censored:
Strangy, spot on but it was easier said than done, Quote;- So the selector fork must be jammed in the unlocked position.
Pull the side cover plate and lock it in. At least you will have dive while you sort the new/repair shaft.:D
Nobody said how to get the front top bolt out of the case, it fouled on the transmission when 3/4 out. I got the cover loose and away from the body and hacksawed 5/16" of the bolt!:angel:
It was simply the lever jammed, probably not used for a long time and stuck, I put a screwdriver blade behind it and levered it forward. Did that a couple of times then it worked fine.:D
Unscrewed the remainder of the bolt, made a gasket for the cover plate, from all the Sikaflex I'd say someone else has had a go at it, no gasket put back on at all.:mad:

for info, no gaskets on any of the faces on later (like late D1 onwards) transfer boxes.
Good you got it fixed though.
