It is possible your float assembly has become partially detached from the pump. Some times on installation or assembly it is not completely locked in place and then eventually comes adrift giving spurious readings.

Yep... It's like the gauge is out by 1/4 tank. Fill it up, and by the time I've driven about 200km the gauge has fallen to The F mark
Looks good though when the trip meter says I've driven 600km and the gauge says 1/2 !! Keeps folks on their toes when I say "look, I only used 1/2 tank for the last 600km" ... People are very impressed with my fuel economy
Fill at 1/4 takes around 80-85L
I'm used to it ... now.

The readings may be consistent if the float assembly is dislodged, it's worth a check to rule it out because it's more likely a mechanical issue rather than electronic.
