Led Dash lamp fail.

I had replaced the three incandescent light globes. One of them has blown! So I have replaced the led's with the incandescent globes. A much better even illumination of the panel. I was not happy with the variable light level across the dash that came from the led's.

I went through a couple of types.
Initially my brother gave me his unwanted ones, which are the globe looking type. That is, the LED light is forcibly pushed to the tip of the plastic lens.
I didn't like that at all, and went through the entire process of removing them again and incorrectly inserting them(reversed of course) but with the better design type with three separate led chips spreading the light cross the range more effectively.

I have a ton of type 2's in various colours that'll never get used but I prefer the white no 1 type.
I'd be nice if they had the side chips at 90degree intervals for an even more even spread tho .. but they work well enough with the 2 chips at 180degrees.

This is on my D1. Haven't tried to change the D2 yet(not yet on the road).

retro fitting LEDs some times does not give the desired results as the vehicle manufacturer did not design the vehicle for LEDs. Often peolpe replace interior lights with LEDs also,
I personally don't like the Bright Clinical look it gives the cabin, it is not pleasant on the eyes. When I replaced down lights in my house with LED ones I went the warmer ones so as not have the ultra white eye straining light.

This is where personal taste comes into it.

I hate warm light rendering. Hard on my eyes. reading is more difficult, making out 'true' colours is too.

I've replaced as many lights in my house with cool/ultra cool white lights instead.

I used to run many CFL lights in the cool white colour range(reportedly 5000/5500K) but I found all of them to have dreadful colour casts, either red or green .. never neutral.
All my LEDs now have a white colour with zero(or close to it) colour cast.

My idea in changing the D1s instrument lights was to change them from green to white. I didn't realise that the green colour of the speedo/tacho was in the translucent film in plastic faces(on the rear).
So I ditched that plans and left all the green 'condoms' over the LEDs(where fitted) when I put them back in.

The only thing I don't like about the LEDs is that they are too bright for the really dark night time country roads, as I don't have the dimming controller fitted.

With the interior cabin lights, I changed mine to the brightest(ie. most powerful) whites I could find in those annoying festoon fittings.
