Thread: Diesel fuel preasure regulator

2 ways for both
You can do it with out taking the intake manifold off but is a right Pain in the rear so i take the manifold off
You can either buy a repair kit for about $60.00 ex uk
Or replace the whole unit and as they last at least 10 years this would be my prefered method

I have replaced mine just before Easter. Is it hard NO! is it difficult YES! Do I have hints YES did I take the manifold off NO. Did I repair the old regulator NO - i REPLACED IT - cos its not worth stuffing around sourcing the individual bits you will need. For the job vs buying the complete kit ....and you get to practice the assembly "dance steps" with the old unit thus ensuring a happy ending when you finally commit the new unit to finish the job

Have a look at where the leak is coming from. My leak was a loose pipe. Tightened the nut up and leak stopped.

My FPR was replaced just before i bought the car but i ended up with a loose pipe like Bohica.
If you know the history of the vehicle and the manifold has been off recently and cleaned then leave it on , if not i would pull the manifold to do it especially if you are not running a Provent, it will be a Win! Win! situation you will get a clean manifold [if it's caked with soot you know you have to clean the intercooler too] also check all the hoses and wiring that the manifold makes hard to access and maybe do alternator brushes while your at it.
Although i haven't done the job myself i wouldn't like to do it without a 1/4 inch drive socket set with the manifold on, one post i read on here was to use 2 longer bolts with the heads cut off as locating guide studs when fitting the new valve.
I'm a big Preventive Maintenance fan but my Disco is my 3rd car so i can pull it off the road for long periods, your situation might be different.

And clean the strainer which is beneath the FPR in the head with petrol or something while you are already there

i am going to have a good look around unit to see if i can find where the leak is, and check all bolts and fittings, i can really do with out stripping it out

Remove the acoustic cover, start the engine and look. You may be lucky.
