I'm only thinking a small suction due to the bigger snorkle hole,,

but the other is a concern!! where do you live again?

If you are worried about that (or as a safety feature anyway) you could install one of these or similar:
Liquid Level Sensor Kit B192 | Jaycar Electronics
in place of the duckbill with a drain valve.

I would think that with a deep water crossing the water would only be at the level of the duckbill and small drain hole in the bottom of the airbox IF the truck became stationary and there is no "Bow wave" being created to keep the level of the water down in the engine bay and also the inside of the front panels.
This may be fine with a diesel engine But on a petrol engine it would be "Game Over" because the spark plugs would be submerged at this stage.

Sounds like some paranoia here fella`s .
The air box on a D2 is not a great difference to a D1 and even the Td5 Deefer`s run the same Air box to a D2 admittedly it sits higher in a Deefer .
Yeah i know some have dusted their Td5 D2`s but i feel this is more to do with incorrect filter`s or installation .
    Just my thoughts

I have a Donaldson electric air filter restriction / service indicator installed in my airbox - although not why i installed it i fully expect it'd trigger if the airbox flooded and the filter got saturated.

Never sealed the duck bill, replaced it once it aged is all...

Keep it clean and it will close up as it should all the time and only open when it has water to dispose of.

Our family D2 has done more deep water than many and never had a single issue...

The positive pressure/snorkel comments are incorrect...

I have never thought of using Vaseline, I normally wait for the motor and drivetrain to cool down the spray inox at the sparkalarkaly bits and use a small tarp as a bullbar Bra to get through the deep stuff.

Sure, will do! ... sometime soon I'll open a new topic on the subject and post a few pics and comments.
