had another chance to tinker tonight, the loss of power thing happened again today...the only fault that has reappeared is 04-01 Inlet air temp circuit.
cleaned a bit more oil out of the red plug at the ecm.
had a look at the MAP sensor, absolutely filthy, cleaned that up, might need replacing will check out the readings with nanocom tomorrow. inside the manifold looked pretty gunky too. hoping this is the cause of 04-01 and the power issue???
checked out the cam sprocket plug, it's held in with silicone! can't believe I didn't spot that before. however it isn't leaking, the leak is coming from the area with the brown sealant stuff on it. could this mean a warped/cracked head??
thank yow.
I think it more likely that the gasket moved out of place as it was being fitted. I super glue it in spots around when I am fitting it. There are also 2 different gaskets so make sure you get the correct one.Quote:

Inlet air temp circuit suggests that the wires are worn through on the corner of the head. The inlet air sensor is in the side of the air cleaner next to the radiator assuming you have an EU3 .
With an operating EGR and no catch can , the inside of the inlet manifold will get 'orrible but really no affect the running much, as long as the MAP sensor is clean. You should also check the build up on the EGR valve itself as it can jam and also affect running as it is the smallest cross section.
Geez you got a beauty!

The inlet air temp circuit is part of the map sensor on the inlet manifold, you can check if its working by looking with nanocom , if it reads around 25 degrees all the time then its at fault , you could try cleaning it again but if that doesn't work you might want another one , also check that wiring for chafing,Phillip is talking about the ambient temp which is part of the ambient air pressure circuit on the eu3 models , re gunk , it looks like its coming from the cam cover, which has no gasket , just check the torque on those bolts , someone may have stripped them previously
Going well today! Car was running beautifully and today was the only day I needed to drive it to and from work before borrowing the in laws car until I get the disco serviced. A trip of about 10 mins but some 100k sections. Anyway checked the oil last night and it seemed fine and not as smelly. Slightly above full.
So today I decided I'd save some money and go home for lunch and as I'm coming down a hill the oil pressure light comes on and the car shuts down. Managed to Coast into a servo.
Cars not overheating and the oil level is as above. Won't start.
If there is fuel in the oil could it be changing the viscosity to the point where the pressure would drop enough to make this happen?
Will an oil change get me home? (5 mins)
Ah such fun. :)
Oops!
Does the engine now turn over?
Unfortunately it sounds like it could be that the oil pump bolt has unscrewed and fallen off.
I don't think that the TD5 has a low oil pressure cutout , going by the number of threads that cite a similar occurrence, ie just driving along and oil pressure light on engine stops.
I hope not for your sake as it means engine rebuild or new engine.
Keep us posted.

Oh gawd I hope it's not that bad. Had to leave it there and get back to work. Will check tonight. Fingers crossed.
Geez, you must've run over a chinaman , fingers crossed it's not the oil pump bolt , but not looking good , either undo the oil filter ( take a drip tray or something to catch oil) and get someone to crank it or undo the feed to the vacuum pump (14 mm spanner from memory ) on the rhs front of head if oil doesn't @#ss out of there then that unfortunately is the culprit
**** I only had a quick moment to see if it would start on our way home tonight and no way. I think i'm screwed, was doing about 80kmh up hill at the time. [bawl]
Pull the serpentine belt first and try turning it over.
