No- easy fix with the coolant plug behind the exhaust manifold![]()
Went to drive home this evening and there was a small puddle of coolant under the car. Had a look at the engine and saw this, have driven home watching temp gauge and trooped up twice. As was dark not a lot I can do right now. It was dripping at front of engine onto axle, couldn't see the source.
is this what happens when the head gasket goes ? Car is driving totally fine and no white smoke ?
no idea here !!

More seriously, does the exhaust manifold have to come off to get to it ?

Yes,looks like you need a manifold stud/nut and gasket as well. The plug is part LCM100170.
Yep that's the plug behind the exhaust manifold. Mine was a slow leak over a long time, yours looks like a larger leak. At least you're using the correct coolant.

I sorted the manifold 18 months back, and as can be seen by it went a bit wrong at the end. Easy out broke off, drilled around it and just about all of it came out, I tried screwing in a high tensile bolt into what was left and it took, real tight and when doing the final quarter turn it sheared off, but some weld glue in when tightening it as well and it seems to have held to date pretty well.
had the manifold skimmed when repairing. So to sort that corner out again sounds like a lot of pain and not sure where to start on it, but as you say it needs to be done and done right. No idea how much it costs to ceramic coat, anyone got any ideas ?
I have a mate who restores 1920's / 1930's cars will lots of tools so will go and have a chat in the morning. So With the severity of the leak I have to do this asap, else risk much more severe damage.
And thank you all for the help, I was so gutted earlier thinking the head must have gone, especially when I had just spent out on the torque converter and with no money left in the LR bank !!
And what does drifted the Welch plug mean ?
