Doing a few drives during the weekend, sometimes it was dripping after, sometimes it did not.

Cannot see and split hoses, so it has to be the Welch plug, but even when dripping, could not see any further evidence of escaping liquid from the Welch plug. Probably is still coming from there, but also guessing it depends on how hot the engine is generally. When I had the big leak on Friday it was after an hour drive.

A little confused as I thought it would be a constant leak very easy to identify, so thought I would just throw it out there before I order the new parts.....

PS I know it will be worth re-doing the manifold and putting in M10's and finally put that one to bed.

    Cheers,

    Matt.

    M10 Stud Part Number

Ok, so trying to order required bits and pieces. The M10 replacement studs, can I use the 35mm TDi 10mm studs or must I stick with 25mm ?

Does anyone have the right part number for the M10 studs ?

    Thank you,

    Matt.

had the manifold skimmed when repairing. So to sort that corner out again sounds like a lot of pain and not sure where to start on it, but as you say it needs to be done and done right. No idea how much it costs to ceramic coat, anyone got any ideas ?

I have a mate who restores 1920's / 1930's cars will lots of tools so will go and have a chat in the morning. So With the severity of the leak I have to do this asap, else risk much more severe damage.

And thank you all for the help, I was so gutted earlier thinking the head must have gone, especially when I had just spent out on the torque converter and with no money left in the LR bank !!
Mine cost $100 cash. You get what you pay for, mine is flaking off. I'll be ringing this mob.

Change the little coolant hose that comes off the back of the oil cooler while you've got the manifold off , that could be starting to leak as well, it's on the same side as the core plug ( which screws in by the way) , don't forget to order the turbo drain gasket and manifold to turbo gasket as well as the turbo oil feed copper washers.

Have ordered all the gaskets as suggested, I now have to wait till next week to fit, so short runs for me for next few days.

    Where is the leak !!!!!!!!!

Been having another look today, 10 drips in 10 seconds. It seems to be very much at the front of the engine, it certainly is not leaking now from the Welch plug, but cannot find any leak at all at exhaust manifold height. Hopefully the photos show where it is coming from, I cannot get any vision further up from below, or see anything from above, does anyone have any ideas ?

I am also thinking some larger event took place when It first happened, so not sure what to think ? All parts are waiting for me, and will re-do the manifold gasket and studs, but think Welch plug is no longer the source of the problem.

Sorry for the photos being wrong way up, only happens when I load them here.

Before I had a Land Rover I did not have any torque wrenches. Now I have three.

does this mean a knackered water pump, anyway I can check or narrow I down. Also could this have anything to do with why there was lots of coolant marks which hasn't happened since ?

I had a leaky water pump. The seal had burst due to over pressure from the ruined head fasket.
