And the irony is, he never did get to the Melbourne Cup. They probably don't know Bluey and Curly, either .Not that it matters, I guess.
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

    Hello Muppet,
Although this is an older post........

I cut a muffler off/apart a 99 D2. It was hollow, with baffles, but absolutely no glass packing whatsoever and no trace of any packing either.
The turbo's act as noise suppression prior to the muffler due to the vanes of the turbo dispersing/suppressing noise.

I cut it apart, had a piece of pipe bent up at the local exhaust centre and welded it back together myself.
Straight through pipe for $60 - bargain !!

A little louder but meh, the benefits outweigh the drawbacks

    Cheers,

    Jason

I have one of these Flowmaster series 50 on my D2. They are lightly baffled so the glass fibre does not disappear.
No drone except uphill full throttle at less than 2000RPM, when you can just hear it. I have decat, no egr, new map, 20PSI, ceramic ex manifold,Serck intercooler etc .
The rear resonator is straight through so no gain there.

Does it go better? I think yes but I did lots of changes in a short period so no baseline, but I can tell you it goes much much better than a stock motor and turbo lag is reduced.

I have not looked to see the fitting issues but I reckon a nicely curved dump pipe from the turbo would give the best gain in spool of the lot instead of the sharp curve of the cast pipe. Anybody know of one?

    Regards Philip A

Finally fitted the hotdog at the weekend, and very happy with the result. No mid-muffler, not cat, just a 'dog and rear muffler.

It doesn't seem to have affected performance at all, but it is a little quieter, but has made a big difference to liveability. It is quieter in the cabin, makes it a lot easier to have a conversation (if you like talking) but it sounds 'right' now. Not too noisy as it sounded before.

Appreciate it is very much down to individual taste, and I have got mine now how I want it.8.jpgIMG_09.jpg
