    larger tyres

Has anyone ran these tyre sizes?
tyre size worked off this clac
    Tire Size Comparison
    225/85r16 31.1in
225/95r16 32.8in limited to bridgestone AT or dunlop AT/MT old super grippers but can get both cheap atm
    235/85r16 31.7in Defender tyre
    245/75r16 30.5in
255/85r16 33.1in common defender upgrade tyre
    265/75r16 31.6in

any issues with any of these sizes? i would assume the wider ones will have scrubbing issues on the steer
i am mostly looking 235/85r16 or 225/95r16 all though the 225/95 tyre selection is limited so will probably go 235/85r16

one person ive spoken to has said that with the 235/85r16 he had too much power loss (i am assuming a reduction in torque) and went back to 245/75r16, but i am not too worried if i am slow as its an landie they are not meant to be fast but dont want to run out of power and stall out ether.

for what i will mostly be driving on will be the ranges in around grampians down to wombat and little and big deserts with the odd trip to high country and maybe tassie or outback sa
i have 2 sets of rims and all ready have a set of at 245/70r16's so will prob get a set of muddies for the 2nd of rims and car has 2in lift.

from what ive read i shouldent have any clearance issues with any of the tyres under 32in

i would rather stay on skinny's to put less strain on the axles and cv's and driveshaft's plus they give a bit better fuel econmey.

ive also seen a post on here that due to landies having a 7in diff they dont have the ground clearance issues that jap stuff has and we get basicly 1-2in of extra diff centre to ground clearance can anyone else back that up? if so that means a d2 with 33's is the same a pootrol with 35's

car has a 2in lift all ready

Im running 265/75r16 you notice the drop in power and mine is a manual although i have over come with the hybrid turbo
What you must take into account is the speedo error which will effect HDC and im guessing maybe T/C in the bush but definitely HDC and of course the speedo error for on road .
Apart from that no other issues on my part

Fitting any tyres size that's not standard (ie on the tyre plate) is considered a modification and the rules for modifications that don't require an engineers cert is you can only go up 50mm in size

This means, that strictly speaking, the maximum tyre size you can fit on a disco 2 is 31.02" without certification..... there is only 1 legal tyre on your list

I tried 245/75/16s on our D1 with a 50mm lift, but they were noisy, rubbed and reduced braking, so I wouldn't recommend them.
Our Defender is fine on the standard 235/85/16s.

I fitted 255/70/16 instead of the std 255/65 and the EGT got higher with 100*C under heavy throttle without any other involvment and the gearbox lever + center console both hot in the same driving and weather conditions....the breaking distance is increasing as well... these are facts observed on my own car so no need for sarcasm cos when i swapped back to the std ones everything was well again

i forgot to say that the consumption was up with 2-3l/100km too
    Discovery Td5 (2000), manual, tuned

From stock tyres to 235/85r16's with a 2" lift.

No rub or steering issues and no considerable power loss. Only annoying thing is the speedo being out.

2017-05-29 11.49.32.jpg235/85R16 BFG ATs on the TD5 at the moment. 40mm lift IIRC on the front and air suspension 50mm spacers at the rear with OME shocks, +2" braided brake lines, spaced front x member.

    Pros
    No rubbing
    extra clearance
    lower revs for cruising
no issue on articulation for contact detected

    Cons
speedo 10% off at the moment (will be taken care of, but not got around to it)
autobox revs to change are off (and I don't know if the speedo correction will help or hinder that)

I've never swapped tire sizes on an auto before and I'm not super convinced that it ideal. It works, but would probably be better with a few tweaks.

I used to run 33" (Grizzly claws, not that you can get them now) on the 200TDi 90 back in the UK and I never really noticed an issue with power loss. I find the auto drives better with sport mode on or 3rd for shorter runs with this combo of mods.
My uprated torque converter probably isn't helping some of this.
Having said that, the new intercooler seems to have zeroed out the torque converter and tyre change power band changes.

I think here in SA I'm actually legal... Well, will be after sorting the speedo.

I'm running 245/75 16 STMAXX. Too big for towing out 2 tonne van but fine for highway work not towing.

well for Victoria the tyres i have listed none of them are legal as maximum allowed tyre size increase in 25mm with a 50mm lift for a total of 75mm so if none is legal then i may as well find something that works spend the $500 and get it engineered and don't have to worry about ever again.

did you notice it drive any differently like tenancy to wonder over the road etc or pretty much the same?

as for braking distance becoming longer i am surprised i would of through the larger tyres would be better since there is more rubber on the ground and if i brake test my disco the abs goes nuts due to the wheels locking up

    25mm tyre lift == 50mm on diameter
