Hi Guys,

I am new to this forum. I have just purchased a 2000 Td5 discovery 2 manual. There were a number of items that were not picked up by the RW tester, one of which was a missing sandwich plate at the top of the bell housing just behind the motor, block exposing the flywheel. Apparently after much debate at Vic roads licesensed testing section this is apparantly not a roadworthy item as it is not a structural item. To fit the plate requires the gearbox to come out at a cost of about $1000.

Does anyone know if this needs to happen ? Am i going to encounter problems down the track if i dont do this from the point of view of water and debris getting into the bell housing ? Conflicting opinions have come from Vic Roads. They seem to think that a number of discos are on the road with this sandwich plate either not being fitted or having been removed

thanks Chris
