Td5 - Where does the wiring go for the oil pressure switch?

    HI Folks,

Can anyone please help me find where to solder in a wire I have missing from the oil pressure switch plug?

Long story short, a mechanic mate was helping me fit a 2nd hand transmission to my Disco the other day and in the midst of all the heaving and grunting he got the two wires for the oil pressure switch wiring loom jammed between the bellhousing and block.
I have the yellow wire out ok, but the black wire I only have about 100mm of it from the terminal plug end, so I assume I need to solder a length of wire back to the main engine loom (the one with connections for crank sensor, starter and glow plugs).

The problem is, I cannot find where the black wire connects back into the main loom. Unless it just goes to an earth point, I assume it has a return to the instruments or ECU. I've cut about 75mm of the conduit off the loom but still no broken black wire in there!

Does anyone know, or is anyone able to check the loom where the yellow wire goes into it under the inlet manifold and see if the black wire goes in there too?

Would be much appreciated. I'll post a picture up soon.
    Cheers
    Dave

Hi Dave, don't bother with the black wire , the switch works fine with the one wire , the black wire doesn't need to go anywhere as the switch earths through its body

The black wire is only that long on mine too, it works fine must be earthed thru the sender.

Thanks that helps heaps. Thought I was going nuts! Wish I knew that before I spent an hour pulling the loom apart! Turns out the starter solenoid terminal was about to drop off the loom so I'll fix that while its out.
    Thanks again.

Found the same when replacing some cooling hoses and outer cover on the harness, thought I'd snapped the black wire off!!
Off to the forum again for helpTd5 - Where does the wiring go for the oil pressure switch?
Sender is a single wire unit as others have mentioned, not sure what models use the earth wire return??

I believe all black wires go to earth on a disco.

Yes, the black wire for that particular switch is useless but is the oil pressure warning working now?

And another Disco 'feature'. If you ever have to change out the oil pressure switch there are 2 variants. One has a parallel thread and dowty washer and the other has a tapered thread.
No idea what models but my August 2002 build has the parallel threaded one. I'll check but I'm pretty sure it has 2 wires as well.

    Glad I googled this.

I'm tidying up all the looms, all the corrugated conduit and inso tape is shagged and was starting to question my powers of observation trying to find where the black wire went!
